Visualization of dust / spots
Hi,
as I recently switched from Lightroom to Capture One Pro 9 I was wondering whether there is a similar functionality to detect dust or spots in COP as in LR. Sometimes it is very hard to see them, so I always liked to use the "visualize spot mask" in LR which turns your image into a high contrast black and white image. With the help of this mask you instantly see where the spots or dust are and can eliminate them quite fast.
Any idea / suggestion?
Thanks for any reply,
Marco

I don't think the functionality you are referring to exists on CO, if it does is very well hidden. I don't exactly miss it neither, LR identifies many things as spots that are not really spots - e.g., stones. 0 -

The spot / dust removal tool in COP is quite good (once you have applied it) - my problem is to detect the spot in the first place. In the sky it is sometimes very difficult to see them - at least on screen - on a print you instantly see them, which is quite annoying, as you have to do a reprint, which costs money, time, etc.0 -
Marco,
I tend to shoot with lenses quite open so dust spots are not a regular problem for me.
However when they are a challenge I find that working at 100% zoom is useful for any smaller spots and in general a temporary reduction of the exposure makes them more obvious. So exposure tool , maybe HDR tool, Clarity ramped up to max on both sliders and so on.
The Spot and dust tool works at the Background layer level.
One simple way to create a TEMPORARY adjustment (Assuming that you are using the Pro version) might be to add an Adjustment Layer, use one or more of the available tools to pick out the dust and spots by changing the layer settings, fix the problems using the Dust and Spot tool and then delete (or deactivate) the temporary adjustment layer.
Of course you can also fix blemishes using the layer funtcionality for clone or heal - but that is a different approach, Here I am only suggesting the use of the layer to temporarily highlight the blemishes that might otherwise be difficult to see.

I've been getting good results by bringing the levels sliders together to increase contrast, identify the spots and then resetting the levels tool. Possibly a better solution is shooting a LCC plate at the beginning of the shoot and applying the same levels technique to reveal the dust spots, then apply the dust removal data to the rest of the shoot. 0 -

I'll try both of your suggestions. Maybe one day PhaseOne adds a functionality to COP just like Adobe did to LR.0 -

You can make the suggestion to the Support Team - they will pass it on.
Just create a Support Case with "Enhancement Request" in the title line so they can direct it to the right people and describe what you would like, why and how you see it working. That would give them the best chance of fully understanding what you would like to see.

Aperture Expert recommended creating a sinusoidal curve - ie one that went from black to white and back again about six or seven times. You could save this as a preset and apply it. It worked fine in Aperture; don't see why it wouldn't in C1P 0 -
I tried a preset with a sinusoidal curved and it works fine! Thanks. However, a solution like LR6 / LRCC offer, would be much more convenient. 0
