XMP Sidecar,Embedded, or EIP?

Hello.

I have been starting to build a Catalog of this years work. All projects have been shot in Sessions. Most files have minor global adjustments such as WB, Exposure, etc.

Sometimes I will go back into the Session folder of the project and tweak a setting, but I have noticed that the settings are not updated in the Cataloged version of the file. I have tried reloading the metadata, re-syncing the folder, and using EIP format instead of RAW, but the changes never seem to carry over between a session and catalog.

Is this possible? If so how? Does it have something to do with an XMP Sidecar vs Embedded?

    I don't think you're supposed to mix Sessions and Catalog.

    You can work with both. See this blog post. . (It is based on version 8, but the principles of how sessions and catalogs work are the same.)

    There is no problem with working in a session and then taking the session work and adding it to a catalog.

    You can also take work done in a catalog and export it to a session if you wish.

    However sessions and catalogs do not share their edit information files. In my views there is no reason why they should - and possibly quite a few reasons for keeping them separate.

    However I write that as a sessions user who finds a fixation on catalogues somewhat weird. 😉

    My reason ist, sessions loadtimes are faster than my catalog loadtimes.
