Import to a destination using date creation
Hi there,
I'd like to import a whole bunch of pictures into my new catalog and want them to go into subfolders that should be by their Original date of creation.
So f.x I have moved a bunch of photos and videos form my phone in a folder on my dekstop. I'd like to import all these pictures and videos into a 2019 folder in CaptureOne. I want them to go into subfolders that should be determined by their original info "media created", which differ from the general info, where all pics and videos have the same "created date" (when they were copied over).
I can't figure out which token to use, and also need it to go into subfolders like 2019-12-07 (like lightroom), and that token isn't there.
Does anyone have a work-around?

Catalogues don't organize your images based on folders. The real organizational structure is albums, groups, and projects. I would recommend using smart albums and groups to reference images taken on a certain date.
For instance, you might have a collection structure like this:
Group: 2019
Group: 11
Group: 12
Smart Album: 07
Smart Album: 08
Alternatively, if you want to store your images outside the catalogue, you can importing them into a directory structure based on date, and browse them that way. You can set up a token structure based on the Image Date.0 -

I am not storing my images within the catalog, only using the catalog to browse from an external drive. As my brain is very date orientated I want to browse folders by date, but understand that "smart-folders" are very usefull.

This is excactly what I am trying to do!
I want to import the images from a newly created desktop folder, onto an external NAS drive where I store, and from where I browse, modify etc from within the CaptureOne catalog.
The problem when importing is that they all end up in the same folder on the NAS drive, even if they are all taken on different dates. Basically because when the photos and video was transfered from my phone to the desktop, they all adopted a "created today" date!
E.g. Today all went into 07.12.2019, but other info in each file says rightly that they are created on various dates throughout the year. E.g. 29.03.2019 and so on (Original Media created info).
I'd like to use this original Media created info, and with this info file them in folders with the structure 2019-03-29 ((YYYY - MM - DD)).
Only I cannot find a token that does this, but hope that you can manually add a token to do this.
If anyone know how to do this, I'd much appreaciate their help. It is exactly what I have been doing in lightroom all the time, but have now made the change and hope to find a way to keep the same folder structure as before.0 -

In Naming format interface (that opens clicking the "..." button on the right of the Sub Folder entry in the "Import to" section of the importing interface) select Date and Time under Groups to filter tokens. You'll find two kind of tokens, those for current date and those for Image date. The latters should read the date in the Exif data doing what you want.0 -

I did try the image date token, but to no awail.
The info available is for an example file:

Under "general" tap rightclicking on file in Windows 10.
Created: Satuday, 7 December 2019, 13:25:40
Modified: Wednesday, 5 June 2019, 10:39:26
Accessed: Today, 7 December 2019, 7 hours ago
In "details" tab, under "origin", is marked:
Media created 05/06/2019 10:39
-----------
So all files images or video files share the same "Created: Satuday 7 December" info, but all have the original capture time as "modified" or deeper embeded in the "Details" tab.
So they all end up in a 2019-12-07 folder, which is not great.0 -
Finally using the token :
[Image Year (yyyy)]-[Image Month (MM)]-[Image Day of Month (dd)]
Seem to do the right thing for photos, but not for .mp4 files for some reason or another.
Any ideas for those files?0
