Can you start Capture One with the Shift-key pressed so that no session or catalog is opened? If so, can you create a new session at that point?

And if not, do you get any error message?

No, it is not possible, Capture One always starts with the existing session. But I found a workaround: If I rename the old session, I will get the screen to create a new session.

Okay, troubleshooting by trial and error.

First, you are attempting to create a session in a folder you have sufficient access permissions, like the internal Pictures folder. Also, there is sufficient free space (a new session hardly takes space).

It could help to either delete the preference file, that you can find here:
    C:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Local\Phase_One\CaptureOne.exe_StrongName_...\[build_number\user.config

Another option is to log in to another user on your computer (create a user if you do not have another) and start Capture One and create a session. If this works, there might be something wrong with your user profile.

Thank you for you magic word "permission"...I found the solution in one minute.
Issue was related to Windows 10 Pro "Ransomware Protection" --> Caputure One 20 was not on the white list 😂
Should be included in the FAQ, that users should check whether "Ransomware Protection" is active and if so, if the permission is given.

Thank you for the feedback. I would never have figured this out myself. I have been playing with it now and was able to reproduce your issue.

Note that you can leave the ransomware protection enabled, but remove the pictures folder or whatever folder you use for Capture One, from the Protected Folders list.
