How to switch to edit the surroundings of the selected mask?

Where is the option to select if you want to process the selected mask itself or the surroundings ? (like in the Lightroom). For example you select a small object (much easier than to select the rest) but want to process everything else except the object.

  Draw the mask over the small object, then right click the layer and choose "Invert mask".

  Plus you can create another layer and copy the mask to it and then Inver that mask. Now you can adjust the selected object and it's surroundings as you like.
