It depends on the space available in your viewer window. Capture One tries to fit them in to the space as best it can.

Yes I know Ian, but sometimes this automatic decision from C1 is not what I need. And I am having a hard time to hide or show browser or tool panel to change the decision from C1 and sometimes this does not even help.

If the image subject is very slim and aligned horizontally, let's say a horizon, a lying lady, a dragon-fly, then left/right is not what I want, I want it rather top/bottom.

But then, a high tower I would like to compare left/right, not top/bottom.

    regards

    Hi,

When you place the Browser below, the images will be placed left/right even though they were displayed up/down with the Browser on the right side.

Go to the main menu and select View -> Customize Browser -> Place Below.

Thanks Lily for the tip, but that is not what I mean.

Sometimes I want the browser, sometimes not, sometimes I want the tool tabs, sometimes only a few floating tools to have more space for the images, sometimes the biggest viewer without any other things, etc.

The viewer decides based upon the available space, a good choice often, but if I want to compare specific parts of two images in either horizontal or vertical side by side view, then working around the lack of an explicit choice by me (which I request here) by artificially manipulating the available space, on the expense of some space for the viewer e.g. having to show the browser at all is not very handy.

I even manipulate the available space by placing the Windows task bar, just to "overwrite" the automatic choice by C1. Not handy.

The request is an explicit choice done by the user, maybe in the viewer's tool bar.

    Regards
