Problem with Folder contents in Library tab
I have a friend that’s run into a problem with Capture One. She did submit a problem report, but on the off chance that C1 support is unable to help, I’m repeating the submission here in the hopes that someone may have a clue how to solve the problem. She’s running Capture One 20 on a Macintosh, OSX version 10.14.6. The problem is as follows:
===
I’ve run into a problem with my catalog in that the Folder section in the Library tab does not show any images for one particular disk folder, even though that folder contains over 3,600 images. All user collections that reference the photos in that folder are shown as online and are fully editable. Everything works as it should, except that the Folder section shows no images for that specific folder. The problem started some time ago (Capture One 11), and is also present in Capture One 20. The details:
The on-disk folder in question is ~/Pictures/2017/, and contains multiple sub folders, each of which has multiple images (74 on-disk folders and over 3,600 images). The user collection contains a folder called 2017, and this folder contains multiple albums. Each album in turn contains multiple variants, all of which point to the associated image on disk (~/Pictures/2017/…). All images are shown as online and editable, and things work fine from this perspective. Right-clicking on any image in any of the 2017 collection albums and choosing ‘Show in Finder’ shows that image as being in one of the sub folders of ~/Pictures/2017/. So far, so good.
Moving down to the Folder section in the Library tab, the Folder icon under ~/Pictures/2017 shows only 6 folders, although there are in reality a total of 74 folders on disk and known about by the user collections. Right-clicking on the 2017 folder and choosing ‘Synchronize…’ brings up a dialog offering to import 7 pictures, which is far too low (there are over 3,600 in the 2017 folder and sub folders). This is the issue: the 2017 folder in the Folders section shows only a small subset of the total folders, and there appears no way to update it to what is really there.
Verifying the catalog produces no errors, although there is clearly a mismatch between what the user collection knows about and the folder section knows about. Although normal operations (editing, printing, etc) work fine in collections, the problem with the folder section means that it is not possible to do disk related operations in Capture One. Specifically, the on-disk folder takes up over 200 GB of space, and since the images are a few years old, the desire is to move them to an external archive drive. The normal way to do this would be to drag the folder in Capture One from its present location to an external drive (also in the folders section). The problem is that the 2017 folder in Capture One’s Folder section shows as having only a few on-disk folders, so very little would be moved. Simply moving the folder in the Finder and then re-importing in Capture One is not a viable solution, since in that case all editing information would be lost.

Any thoughts or ideas on what the issue might be (other than an undetected corruption in the database) and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice,

As far as I know, she hasn't imported any catalogs into this catalog. However, using your suggestion seemed to have solved the problem. Created a new catalog, imported the old (problematic) catalog into that new catalog, and all folders appear to be correct. Did a lot of testing, and everything works as it should - problems solved!
Thanks very much for the suggestion Walter, it definitely fixed the problem. Much appreciated!

2 years later and still no word from Capture One about this issue?
I am exactly trying to work around this issue, and adding that not only I can't find my images inside the folders (they just show at All Images) - I noticed my catalog also messed up with my images throwing them to other places inside the catalog... its all so frustrating right now trying to create another catalog to import this broken one (45k images for about 6 hours and I still don't know if it will works).
still about the catalog problem and instabilities, the catalog simply disappear with a folder containing an important project and I cant find it anywhere.... all work gone!
CAPTURE ONE, to spam me EVERYDAY about discounts on social media, emails, and even in my dreams you are amazing and super-efficient, what about solving this problem as soon as possible as well? shame.
