For what purpose do you need the accuracy?

I need the accuracy of you are placing photos on a website and need to cut down on the load time of the image so having the correct size is important. Support admits it needs a bit of work.

I feel your pain, but knowing that in other software packages the predicted JPEG size differs greatly from factual size too, I can imagine, that what we see before the export is always a very rough number based on some average image.

The real size of the output JPEG can be estimated only after the compression algorithm has gone through the actual picture.

Theoretically, C1 can compress the image for you and save it somewhere in Temp folder, but wouldn't it be too much of effort from developers and background calculation for something that one can relatively easily do himself, trying to export his particular picture and re-adjusting the sliders?

You could adjust the sliders again but is an extra step or more, the size it gives you though should be close, I dont need it exactly but close otherwise what's the point of them giving you the number in the first place?

    I agree.

But to make it more precise, I'm sure they would need to run JPEG compression on the background every time you display the Process Summary tool and change anything in the image. This would make the interface more sluggish.

Recipes are touted as useful in submitting to various photo sites, with many having file size restrictions. Not accurately displaying file size can make this a tedious process.

Well, if C1 can figure out a way to display a more precise estimation for the export size without a toll on computing resources, I'm totally for it, and I personally will really appreciate the change for better!

It's just that even Adobe with their 30 years experience can't do it with exact precision.

I just thought, instead of a more precise estimation, Capture One could adapt the actual export size to what you setup in your recipe.

It could run a cycle upon hitting the Process button, until it generates an image that precisely matches the size you've chosen.

Hm... This is actually a great idea, and very realistic to implement!

Granted, it will take longer to export, but if you choose such option, you'll get exact size you need.

    Yes that would work.

I think this could be a choice in the Basic tab of Process Recipe:
