Temporary Eraser Brush
ImplementedIt would be nice to have a temporary Eraser brush that one could engage by just pressing "Alt" (on Windows) (or "Ctrl") while brushing to erase a mask instead of building up the mask.
Given that "Alt"-clicking with a Clone brush sets the source point, either
- a different modifier would have to be chosen for setting a clone source point, or
- the temporary Eraser brush needs a different modifier key, or
- the temporary Eraser brush could be unavailable while using the clone brush.
Using the "Alt" key for the temporary Eraser brush would make C1 behave the same as Photoshop which would be a big bonus.
I feel that Ctrl-clicking would have been a better choice for selecting a source point for the Clone brush, but I guess that would be difficult to roll back. Perhaps the modifier key for selecting a source point in Clone layers could be made user-definable.
With the current approach to erasing, one has to switch to the Eraser brush ("E") and then back to the brush one has been using (shortcut depends on the brush type, so could be "B", "Q", or "S"). This is much more cumbersome than briefly pressing "Alt" or "Ctrl" while brushing to remove small parts of the mask.
With the previous brush design (before Build 13.1.0162), it was pretty easy to toggle between brushing and erasing by mapping the (universal) brush to one key (say "E") and the Eraser brush to (Alt-"E"). That made switching back and forth very efficient (for all brush types!)
With the new brush design it is no longer possible to do that because now one has to exactly specify the correct brush type, matching the type of layer one is currently working on.

Yep. And if you have the eraser tool selected, holding the same modifier key should temporarily switch to the respective brush, depending on the type of selected layer.

I noticed that a "Temporary Eraser Brush" function is already available when using a tablet (with "Windows Ink" enabled).
When one turns the stylus around in order to use its Eraser tip (located at what is normally its top end), C1 automatically activates the Eraser brush and correctly reverts to the brush type that was previously used when the stylus is rotated back into its normal orientation.
Now we only need to be able to activate the same behaviour using a keyboard and a mouse.
Holding down "Ctrl" ("Command" on Mac) would do the trick.
Ideally, the modifier keys for activating the temporary Eraser brush and setting source points while clicking with the mouse should be user configurable, but just using a modifier key that isn't already used yet in combination with brushing would do.Capture One, are you listening?

It would be even BETTER if RIGHT mouse click will toggle the tools. Eraser selected will brish with right click and BRUSH selected will erase with right click. Intuitive (3th party) software already have tat for years. It is super fast and enables quick task toggle, even faster than "X" in Photoshop or E/B in C1. As benefit it can be used on all generic stylus not only sophisticated one, since all mimic at least left+right click of mouse.

Mihael, that's unlikely to happen as the right mouse button has been used to bring up the brush dialogue for a long time.
I don't see them departing from that.

I understand:
If that would mess with consistency of something I do not recall now (or just habit), than it is still better to have at least ALT+drag/move option. This now as is cumbersome, a lot.
What I suggest is to get MENU on shortcut key and being present only until you hold key down. You need whole menu 98% of time for changing brush size, correct? If brush size would be given to right click drag/move, than menu would be used 2% of time, to actually set something, like in Ps. It can be moved to keyboard. Or middle mouse key. But I understand. At least ALT option will be fine.0 -
Hi,
Thank you for the comments and suggestions provided.
I have forwarded your request on that it would be convenient using some modifier key by holding it (for instance, Shift) when drawing with any brush type so that it acts as an eraser instead of switching to Eraser (E) and then back again to the needed brush type.

Thank you, Lily!
Please note that "(for instance Shift)" won't work, as "Shift" is already being used to create straight lines when brushing.
It would have to be "Ctrl"/"Command", I guess.0
