Loading/reading xmp files

Capture One does not store image corrections in the XMP file nor does it read Lightroom/Photoshop corrections from the same.   Corrections are either stored in the catalog (if using catalogs) or inside the Capture One/Settings131 folder (sessions).

Was the color correction done in Capture One?  I don't know if there is any way to convert adjustments from other programs into Capture One.

    No they weren't.
I sent the raw images to an editing service and they return the xmp files.  I'm guessing they edit in LR but I'm going to confirm tomorrow.

    Thank you!

I'm fairly certain that Lightroom is the only application that stores image adjustments in the XMP file, and that no other tool, including Capture One will read them.

    Thank you!

So if I wanted to out source my color correction, how would you suggest I do that?
Or would i have to outsource it, read in LR and then upload to C1?

I appreciate your help with this! Thank you!

I've never out sourced anything, so I may not be of much help.

Some choices that I can think of:

    1. Have them send you TIFFs, import the TIFF into Capture One.

    2. Add the XMP in the same folder as the image file which is referenced by a Lightroom catalog, and reimport the Lightroom catalog to Capture One

    3. Read the XMP and image file with Lightroom and export a TIFF to import into Capture One.

This is a good topic to raise in the feature request forum.

I note that in Capture Ones Description of Lightroom Imports it says the following:

    ....... Link

Upon doing so, you’ll be presented with a dialog box that tells you what properties from your Lightroom catalog will be transferred to C1 and which ones won’t. But you’ll see that things like collections, rotation, orientation, white balance, exposure, saturation, contrast, and even crop are carried over.

*It should be understood that not everything will be carried over, and you’ll see that primarily with color adjustment.

Furthermore the attached image has the text

When importing images from Lightroom, only the following properties will becarried over:

    • Collections
    • Crop, Rotation, Orientation
    • White balamce, Exposure, Saturation, Contrast

    Color adjustments are approximations only.

Sorry, I haven't read all the details above nor know a lot about XMP, but I'm quite sure Capture One does read XMP file, not by default though. Please refer details in this link:

Personally I use exiftool to edit lens info, F number etc when shooting with a manual lens. Also use Lightroom to add GPS coordinates sometimes. Then I save the metadata to XMP file in Lightroom. Capture One reads all those information in the XMP file without any problem once setting the preference mentioned in the link above.

    Sam,

Most common types of IPTC data, yes.

Edit information, like colour adjustments as per the original post, no.

They are not in the XMP file and the mechanisms and algorithms will most likely be unique to Capture One.

As I understand things (I do not have LR in active use and have never attempted to import an LR catalogue) the import tool, when importing an LR catalogue, will attempt to apply some of the Lr edits - basically those that is can interpret somewhat successfully - but will ignore the rest that have no possibility to be interpreted due to completely different processing "engines".

Anything that is and always has been intended to be shared as common data - for example the IPTC Metadata - can be shared easily where the data fields are available in both applications.

If not already read this link may be a useful starting point.

So if I understand correctly the only way to import the LR edits

First of all what do you mean when you write "LR edits"?  Capture One can import standard image metadata from the XMP files.  It should handle crops and rotations.  It says it can handle white balance, but since Capture One and LR start from a different point with regards to raw conversion I found that automatic application of White Balance mostly incorrect.   Contrast and exposure adjustments were also mostly incorrect.  All other image edits are ignored.
