is it possible to remove one variant of a photograph from a collection without deleting it from the catalog?

example: i have a file that is ready for output either as a color image or a black and white image. i add it to a collection, but it adds both variants. i delete the color image from the collection because it isn't what i want in that collection. but c1 deletes the color variant completely. that is not helpful.

  If you remove images from collections, they are not removed from the catalog, but only from the collection.

  If your collection is an album, then adding one variant to the album adds all the variants of that image to it. (A feature that users have been asking to have changed for some time!)

  But you can get round this using a smart album. For instance you could set up a smart album to hold all blue-tagged images, and assign blue tags to the variants you want to output in black and white. That would add just those variants to the smart album, since you can add tags to one variant without them being added to all variants.
