Auto Sync and XMP Sidecar selected ?

I have Auto Sync set in the Preferences and my option set to XMP sidecar rather than embeded. Nothing seems to be happening i.e. no XMP Sidecar files are being generated.

Does anyone know at what point XMP files are generated and when does an auto sync take place ?

I'm using C1 9.1.1 , Windows 10 Pro and NEF RAW files.
