Strange Effect due to IPTC Metadata Fields
I have a catalog of 15000 or so images imported from an Aperture Library. For quite sometime (COP 10 and COP9.3) I have been troubled by an extreme slowdown (25 sec hang at each click or keystroke) only when the "Filters" tool is is visible. My initial workaround was to move the Filters tool to a custom tab.
Over the last few days I have found that the slowdown disappears and COP 10 works quite fast if I remove all data from the IPTC "Job Identifier" and "Source" fields. I have text in the IPTC "Special Instructions" field which doesn't seem to cause a slowdown.
I have checked that there are no "unusual" characters in the text in these fields - no control characters, nothing with an ASCII code above 127, and no characters not present on a US keyboard. I have also truncated strings so that none are greater than 29 characters. So the strings should be safe.
