Surely if you have write protected files it is entirely correct not to write changes to them, is it not?

    What am I missing here?

Those files can be edited in 10.0.2

When using the 10.1.x the files suddenly become write protected.

Is the message about Write protection something that comes from Capture One or from the Mac side of things?

And for the Mac users on the forum (not me I must point out) what exactly does the message say?

Well, I don't know any command in Capture One which could write protect files, except that, if they are jpeg or tiff, you should allow C1 to process them (in the Preferences : Image -> Editing -> Enable JPEG, or TIFF, or PNG Editing).
Did you check this ? When installing a new version, some preferences could be changed....

Have you checked the access permissions on this external USB drive? Since it works with another external USB drive, could be a matter of incorrect read/write permissions set for this specific drive.

    Yes, I have checked.

    Using default preference.

I have installed both the 10.0.2 and 10.1.2 in my MacBook Pro 15" Retina

When using the 10.0.2 the G-Drive USB folders can be accessed. No copy protect symbol came out

When using the 10.1.x some folders can be accessed and some cannot. The strange thing is the Activity Windows came up. Say need hardware acceleration and rebuild preview images.

I don't think there is any where setting the 'write protect".

All the files can be edited with Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.

Did you let the preview rebuild run? Or did it not get to that point?

Do you have hardware acceleration set to Automatic or None in the preferences?

Is Support said that there was nothing that could be done did they give a reason?

    Hello,

The support replied sometime in the day sometime in a week. So far, all my reports have been replied or fixed.

Which kind of FS are you suing on your external disk ? I guess FAT is a bad idea.

    Hello,

Are the "write protected" images RAW, or an other format (JPEG, TIFF,...) ?

  • NN635669390740787657UL
    With the upgrade to 10.1.x

The Activity Window came up and Hardware acceleration and Preview rebuild. I tired the turn to Never in the Preference, but occasional still have the Activity windows came up.

The files are in RAW and JPEG as well.

    Problem USB hard disks are

    G-Drive 4TB USB 3.0 hardisk and

    G-Drive 8TB USB3.0 hardisk

G-Drive is a brand selling in Apple Store

Both are manufactured format as Mac OS extended

what happens if you right click on of the problematic files in C1 and choose show in Finder?

  • NN635669390740787657UL
    Will find the image file

  • JohannesR
did you check the permissions of the file in the Finder?

  • NN635669390740787657UL
I don't understand what you mean.

For the same file if using 10.0.2 to edit "NO PROBLEM"

    If using 10.1.x "cannot edit"

I got both version installed in my MacBook Pro

just trying to narrow down the issues

The file in the finder can be edited. Not write protected

Are you seeing a message that claims write protection or are you seeing a symbol over the preview image somewhere?

Is more that you cannot edit the file rather than it is write protected?

What camera did these files come off? And, have you tried deactivating and reactivating your C1 license?

(I suggest this after having had something similar happen to me when teaching a C1 class locally a few months ago: instructor machine had a fresh install of C1 on it that had gotten licensed DB rather than Pro; on a mix of Phase and Canon files I was wondering why I couldn't edit on half the files. After sending the class out for a quick coffee break, it suddenly occurred to me to check the license, and then I found what happened. Whoops!)

Also, what filesystem is that external drive using? (Check in Disk Utility to find out). Sounds like there might be a file ownership issue going on, possibly as well or alongside other issues.

There is no licence issue. I checked.

There is a symbol on the preview photo that looks like a pen with an orange line across it. I been told this means write protected.

The Capture One Pro already been uninstall and freshly install into the MacBook Pro.

The external USB is using the default extended OS

    Hello,

I know some cases where this symbol (pen with the orange line across) appears, but don't know if they are relevant to your issue:
    1) the check boxes "enable editing" of JPEG or TIFF or JPEG are not checked in the preferences (image tab)
    2) you didn't try the full version of Capture one. There are versions specific to Sony or digital backs (DB)
    3) your images have gray profiles and/or too small sizes (one of the dimensions is below about 500 px)

I think that what you experience comes from Capture One rather than OS read/write authorisations.

Thanks for the information. I don't think my case related to the above.

I am sure it is the 10.1x version that causing this problem

Understood, but as long as the issue seems to exist only on your machine we have to find out, what makes your configuration special. I noticed this symbol, when C1 was not able to find my files. After relocating them everything was fine.
If you use different drives they will be mounted under different paths, did you take this into account? Though they contain the same set of files and have the same structure, C1 will not be able to find the image-data.

The files structure is a simple one.

I just don't understand why Capture One 10.0.2 works, but when using 10.1.x the Activity windows came up (no matter what I set in the Preference (NEVER or Auto).

I have installed both software in my MacBook Pro.

just try to let the new version do whatever it likes to do and let it finish, perhaps overnight.

Because that was a change made at the request of users who complained that they did not know enough about what was going on during the C1 start up - with particular reference to potential GPU performance assessment.

It looks like you have thoroughly investigated drive and file permissions with no result.

I consider that Permission to Access is a function of two things - file and folder permissions, and which process or user is trying to access the file.

So, perhaps check the owner and group of the Capture One software - is it the same for both versions of COP?

If you decide to change the owner or group, remember to select "change all subfolders"

please be aware that the symbol in C1 only tells you, that the file cannot be edited, not necessarily a permission issue.

    I quite agree.

I don't think is he permission problem. As I tried using other software can edit the image.

Moreover when the file copy to the Mac Internal hardisk it can be edited.

It must be something in 10.1.x that causing it.
