I wish it were more useful. It seems like a good feature but it just doesn't work very well.

I use the Focus mask for more or less all my own shoots.
The trick is to adjust the threshold for the camera you are using, and the iso used for the image.

I only have one camera that I use it with and I'm typically at the same ISO. For the feature to be really useful, neither of these should matter, but there's more dependants that that even. The brightness of the shot, the sharpness of the lens also matter. If I'm shooting wide open and the image is softer, it matters. By the time I adjust for all of these things, I realize it's not worth the effort. I work in QA for a living, and it may pass verification, but not validation.

I only know the dialog in Edit->Preferences->Focus. Is there a simpler/faster method to adjust the focus mask threshold?

In my experience so far, this is the only reliable and expedient way to judge focus on up to 12 variants at a time:

If your subject is stationary in the frame across multiple exposures, there's no need to go and align the frames manually.

Without a doubt, that is best. I don't know if the feature in C1 could ever be that good. It could be better than it is though.
