Windows XP Service Pack 3 breaks Firewire tethered operation
A word of warning for those about to install XP Service Pack 3 - it breaks the Firewire bus driver and thus prevents tethered operation of any camera that uses Firewire. I got caught by this today and reported it to Phase One via The Flash Centre. A quick fix is to copy the old SP2 version of 1394bus.sys over the new SP3 version. Phase One have posted a fix to a similar problem with SP2(!) last year which should also work, although I haven't tried it:

Reverting to the SP1 driver as suggested by Phase One may have another advantage as I've read that the SP2 Firewire driver throttled the bus to its slowest speed of 100Mbps instead of the 800Mbps it's theoretically capable of. Can anyone at Phase One tell me what the maximum transfer rate of a digital back is so we know if this an issue or not?

Maximum transfer rate or a P series camera back is 400 which is maximum of the standard firewire. 0 -

Thanks Ulf - I'm now using the SP1a drivers as per the previous Phase One fix. Although I haven't got a Firewire disk to do a proper timing test, the P30 seems to transfer images faster with the SP1a drivers than the SP2 ones.
