    Hi Jason,

This is a great list and I think you will like what we have in the pipeline though of course I cant discuss it yet. Just want to point out that #7 already exists in Pro with the spot/dust tool.

    Hi Jon,

Thanks, I think a lot of people will agree that a few tweaks would be nice. My two favourites on this list so far would be having my own saved session templates, and Mobile Me integration - that would clinch it, though I know it's not the deal maker/breaker I make it out to be!

Yeah, I should have looked a bit harder at where I was going - it's great that the spot tool is in there, it makes things a lot easier. Thanks for pointing this out.
    Layers would be the killer.

so "hide tools" and "hide browser" in one shortcut?
Yes, I've asked for this shortcut many times. Apparently nobody is missing this one...

    8) Plug ins.
what for? I guess it slows down C1 and if so, it's definitely something to consider.
    10) Layers!!! - yeah, I know.
the same. Most likely will slow down the software.

Here are 2 of my whishes:
    - switchable CMM so that we can utilize AdobeCMM (with its black point compensation for the translation to the monitor profile)
    - a kind of "priority" when importing new files and creating previews.
Hard to explain. In V3 and from ... if I remember correctly... V4.8.2 to V5.0 you could immediately start to edit an image (and view it at 100%) although C1 was still loading other new files (either way how many). The creation of previews slowed down when you've started to work on a capture. Now C1 first has to import all the captures and create the previews before you can start to edit the fist image... i.e. it's impossible to start editing while C1 is still loading files and creating previews. I'd prefer the old way so that we can start to edit files even when C1 is still loading other files.

1.) A White Balance "preview" when using the WB eye-dropper (I've been told this used to be in C1, but was removed. I'd love to have it back!)

2.) When using the Spot Removal tool, I'd love to be able to make my brush smaller or bigger using the same shortcuts as PS ("[" and "]"). I don't believe there are currently ANY KB shortcuts for doing this.

3.) Adjustment brushes for most things (exposure, sat etc.)

    4.) More variations of vignetting

    5.) I wish C1 had a style-sharing community

6.) I wish the forums discussed techniques more.

A good list and here are my suggestions, two which I've voiced previously in this forum.

A page up/down and left right facility as used in Photoshop for dust removal at 100%

Better WACOM integration for brush size via [ and ] as suggested above.

Better control of sharpening when processing as part of output recipe eg 1024 pixels for web needs completely different sharpening from a full res 16bit image. Currently the only option, to disable sharpening, is inadequate.

Layers or a way of blending different variants or differently exposed images easily in C1.

Increase range of brushes, especially for dust/spotting and ND grad would be be useful if blending variants as above not possible.

Wow - a lot of great ideas here. I'd like to add a better file renaming system. I know it's not a deal breaker but it is definitely a feature that I have often wished for.

The batch rename function is fine but it resets the whole name and counter number which can be very inconvenient if, like me, you use the camera counter as the identifying # for your images. If you want to keep your adjustments and need to fix spelling or partially alter a name and keep the original sequence/counter #, it all has to be done manually. This can take a lot of time on a big session.

It would be great if it were possible to make global adjustments to specific characters within a set of file names;i.e. changing an _ to a - or removing an extra "e" at the end of clients name.

    Thanks,
    Brion

There are one improvement that can improve my workflow with my P25 and C1

I would like an automated function to make a color profile using a Gretag 24 Patch Color Card.

Local adjustments Local adjustments Local adjustments Local adjustments Local adjustments 😉
So I don't have to output 2 or 3 files and blend them together in PS.

    Hi all
I'd (also) like ro add to the list the ability to have an auto CA control adjustment.
I did create a support case for this a while ago and were told that this could come to an upcoming C1 version…

Also to have the tabs open or closed as previous time, it's always time (and nerves!) consuming to reopen the edit color/advance tab each time I need it…

    Just to Clarify:

My ideal full screen mode would be much the same as Aperture's i.e. not an application window. No dock, no menu bar. Not just hiding the tool panes and browser.

I also agree that previews could be dealt with better in C1 Pro. There's presently a long wait during an import.

A new one to add to the list:

    11) When Cropping any image can I have the cropped image automatically fill the preview pane? Just having a mask isn't adequate and can be quite distracting.

    ...Thanks, we're getting there!

    One more thought...

It would be great if there was a keyboard shortcut to allow you to move a cropped image around within the crop. In other words, I would like to be able to be in the Pan/Hand tool (which hides the cropped area) and adjust the crop placement by grabbing the image and sliding it around, while holding down some key sequence.

    Hope this makes sense. 😄

    Thanks again,
    Brion

You can achieve this by editing the Crop tool Preferences. Just have the Opacity be 100%, Brightness to 14 then set preferences for he Label and Frame. Once that is done you can move the Crop with the Crop tool and not see any of the stuff you are trying to avoid.

    Hi Drew,

Thanks for your reply but I think you miss the point of my suggestion. Ultimately the idea is that I don't move the crop around but instead move the image around beneath it. I don't want to have to go back to the crop tool, and see all the negative space, but would like to have a keyboard shortcut that allows me to invoke control over where the image is placed within the crop until it's released. That way, when looking at a cropped image in the Hand tool, I could hold down (just for argument's sake) "option C", and grab the image and adjust it's placement within the visible cropped frame. Maybe the cursor could change subtly or the edge of the frame could turn blue to signify the mode change. This way I can see all my cropped images look like in relation to each other on screen, in the Viewer window or in Multi View mode, when making aesthetic decisions on the fly.

Also, while talking about cropping, it would be helpful if you could hold down the option key while grabbing the corner of a crop and have it scale proportionally from the CENTER of the crop.

All the best and thanks again for a great product.

    1. " Can I apply styles or adjustments applied to imported files as they come in?" +1

    2. Strongly agree with Brions post re renaming. If i have a series of images where I have annotated the capture name (in this instance "item_04") e.g. item_04_234_front_focus, item_04_239_back_focus, item_04_259_background, then the client turns round and says that was item 07 actually I either loose my annotations, have to manually rename them, or use the automater (loosing all previews and settings).

    3. Lots about crops here. my suggestion would be an option where when you switched to another tool the crop didn't necessarily apply. Sometimes this is useful, sometimes it is annoying.

    4. an option to view different images on two monitors while shooting. e.g. monitor facing photographer and client updates constantly as they shoot, my monitor doesn't update allowing me to properly check focus etc on slective images

    5. Creating a new folder in the library automatically adds it to favorites as per 3.7 (as a preference)

6 diagonal guides (for correcting barrel distortion)

7 I find it annoying when the prefence window moves behind the viewer when examining the figures for horizontal and vertical guides.I often look at the figures then move a guide then look again (a number of times). having to click back and forth between the two is v frustrating as the preference window gets lost behind the viewer. Maybe the guides could be incorporated into a tool to prevent this.

    8. " level pickers" to examine rgb output at a fixed position. really useful for examining subtle changes in colour/exposure. Flexcolor had these, Leaf did last time I looked, as does Photoshop.

Of all of these I'd say 2,4, and 8 would be most useful. Some stuff posted here that I wouldn't personally use like layers and brushes, although definitely good to get these ideas out there : )

Local exposure adjustments, change output levels on individual channels in curves or levels. That's all I want!

    1. i would like to be able to change the UI brightness more than just a few choices and this includes the thumbnail area and panels. Like how Bridge does it.

    2. be able to change the default highlights from orange to whatever the user sets in the OS.

    3. here is a bug I can reproduce everytime. Say you have a folder files are named ok _001, _002, _003, etc. then something happens like C1 crashes and the import counter (during tethered shooting) doesn't start off at the right place when you finally get C1 back up again - you get _003 1, _004 1, etc. So now I want to rename the whole folder, the quickest workflow for me is to select all of the images and do a batch rename starting at _001. Since it already starts at _001 C1 will not rename the files because I am telling it to rename the first file to the same name. That has been annoying me for awhile in V4 and V5. Please fix that b/c renaming is one of C1's really big downgrades over 3.7.

    4. speed please

    5. in general i find the UI items like those drop down arrows too small

    6. alot of things dont need to be hidden in drop down arrows like reset renaming counter, that should be more prominently accessible.

Remembered one more thing yesterday on a shoot that would be amazing but i dont hold out any hope. A overlay facility/ layer where one could draw markups freehand. This would be really useful when dealing with shooting focus comps for irregular shaped objects for instance. I could scribble over any areas that are sharp on the overlay/layer, then move onto the next focus, scribble over the sharp areas, shoot the next one, etc until the whole object is covered in scribble. When you have a undulating/irregular shaped object and need to shoot multiple focuses it can be very difficult to be sure you havent missed one tiny area. Obviously you can export and layer up in ps but it would be good to do this in C1.

@Edward 51 re 3. I've never experienced this renaming issue and can't reproduce it on my system (OSX 10.5 V4 and V5), though maybe different OS, iteration etc. While its annoying that the counter resets when it crashes I've made a mental note to always check before recommenceing shooting, not ideal but does save issues later. I have, however, had a similar issue when I forget to capitalize a word it will not let me subsequently ammend as the name is "already taken" .

List of improvements/changes/customizations.... I'd like to see.

    1-

While I use C1Pro exclusively for all image / raw processing, sometimes I don't want it to open when devices are plugged in or connected to my machine.

Lets see, when I plug in my iphone to sync, C1 opens, a memory card, C1 opens, etc etc etc...

All I want is a checkbox option to have C1 NOT open when devices are connected. If I want to use C1 I can simply open the app.

Since I use it exclusively my sessions tend to be on a larger size, and each time it opens it takes a while to do so. Of course I have the option for force quit, but then I risk corrupting my session adjustments, files, etc.

    2-

    Speed.
I know this has been discussed to end many times prior, but I might have a different, or simpler take on it.

If there was a unified 'recommended' setup on how to setup your machine to have similar speed compared to that of v 3.x I would be soooo happy! While I love the full resolution or higher resolution previews of my raws with adjustments, sometimes I just need to burn through a session and want speed.

    3-

This request is a MAJOR REQUEST!!!! Unless I have gone through this process incorrectly, I believe this is the most streamlined process. I like to add my own customized metadata to my processed images, very basic info, such as copyright, name, contact, etc. This metadata I want on EVERY image I process. So I had created a style that is essentially no adjustments other than this metadata. I first select 1 image and then select my metadata style. Copy adjustments, select all, apply adjustments.

While this process does technically accomplish what I am looking for, I tend to forget to select my style before I have already processed out some images. If the styles function tab had the ability to set defaults just as with other function/tool tabs, this would solve this problem.

Again speed and less buggy workflow should be the number 1 feature coming in V6 or V5.3 or whatever, not adjustment brushes, watermarks, video, etc.

Everyone says oh you must have too many images in a folder, in a session, etc. you must use small sessions for C1P5 to work right. I just dont think that's acceptable. Photographers shoot alot these days, clients want alot of variations - print, web, email blasts, etc. We are using multicore computers with minimum of 8GB RAM and C1P still chokes on medium size sessions.
100-250 shots a look/folder is the reality these days, C1P should be able to handle that. I've tried making sessions for every shot which is annoying to organize but it is no better.

I think this should be the priority. Am I wrong?

    - More flexible file renaming. What happened the file renaming preferences as in 3.7?
    - 'Negative' Zoom as in 3.7. Too many times the AD has asked to see the image "actual size" and the only way to do it (that I know of) is to shrink (resize) the whole C1 App window or expand the browser window. Can't we have the Viewer zoom slider be able to shrink the image as well as enlarge it?
    - Ability to use Adobe CMM
    - Apply styles or adjustments applied to imported files as they come in
    - Live View for 35mm cameras
    - Full Screen Mode
    - Web Contact Sheet - Ability for image caption to be combination of filename/rating/date/time. Ability to select # of rows / columns
    - "Reset / Remove Crop" button /drop down menu option for all images. I know you can apply a 'no crop' to all images but it takes quite a few mouse / kbd clicks

Lastly, will C1 session files ever be multi-user? Collaboration is so key these days.

So far, so good though, C1 makes my working life a lot more efficient. Looking forward to v6.

Is this thread actually monitored by Phase One staff... and if so, will you pass the suggestions to the R&D team?
Just asking because normally you ask us to create support cases with feature requests...
For instance the above mentioned customizable brightness of the UI is a point I (and others) have asked for many times when V4 came out... but sometime simply gave up to recur.

the "proof margin" doesn't do it for you?

I wish (also! there are many nice features already requested here…) C1 could remember the texts of embbeded captions in the export menu (filigrane in French).
So when we come back later we don't find only the latest one used…

I wish all of your great and constructive ideas be sent to Phase One directly through a support case so we can properly submit them to R&D. We do our best to convey great ideas mentioned on the forum but the only surefire way to get your constructive wish list in the hands of the software developers is to create a support case. 😉

    Hi Drew
thanks for that, but maybe one could wait a bit more for more ideas and have only one person to summarize for one support case only to be sent? But who in that case? (no pun intended;-)

Well, a large summary might work... but also might be a bit much considering this thread. I would hate for anything to be lost in the fold.
A better solution would be to Post your suggestion here, then follow up with the same suggestion in a support case. You can then edit your Post to convey the suggestion was submitted to Phase One through a support case.

    For Example;

It be great if Capture One could be customized to be entirely Fushia. I just love that color and my workflow has been loosely based on a like based color scheme
EDIT: I created a support case, #1234. The support team politely said they would forward the request to R&D but hinted at a likely "no".

Not quite sure why the requirement for lots of individual support cases. This is a well behaved and constructive forum and it can't be too difficult for the R&D department to periodically check the latest issues being discussed and especially ones such as this.

Consensus seems to be forming on several improvements and gleaning feedback from here and elsewhere must either confirm that the Capture One job list is on message, or that a disparity is forming away from users wishes.

Please don't misunderstand, at no point was this presented as a requirement... simply a suggestion.
Again, all of these are great suggestions and the only way to be 100% sure that your voice is heard by the correct people is to create a support case.
If the Forum is as far as your will takes you, then perhaps it will be read and picked up by those in the R&D department that do keep track of suggestions in the Forum... then again, it may not be. Keeping up on the Forum isn't hard but we all have busy days and again, sometimes great suggestions get lost in the clutter. Creating a support case cuts through tangle and gets right to the point.
In the end, they are your suggestions and you may present them where you wish.
