Don't use catalog if you are shooting tethered, use session it is more stable than catalog.

I had this problem with my D800, D4, Mamiya and Hasslebald bodies shooting tethered in catalog. I reverted to using session and problems is solved for now.

Thanks for the input rave81. I'll definitely keep that in mind. I was tether-shooting in 'session' mode though when these hiccups occurred. I'm hoping that the tech support people can also shed some light on this.

Do you have Capture6 installed? If so make sure that you don't have nikon tethering deselected in the camera providers menu in preferences. I think this happened to me once. Not positive as I did a bunch of things to solve the problem on set a month ago. Let us know.

    Hi rap_digital,

Thanks for the input. I have Capture One 4 and Capture One 5 on my laptop. Capture One Pro 7 is the only version that is tetherable I believe. Maybe I should delete/uninstall 4 & 5? I'm still waiting for word from tech support regarding the case I have opened for this.

I would try reverting to C1 6.4.5 for tethering. Also, a powered usb hub seems to help.

C1 7 and Mac OS 10.6.8 don't seem to play nice together.

I recently started having this problem. I'm running CaptureOne 6.4.2 on an Apple mac pro. I went round and round trying to figure out how to solve and then I stumbled on to a solution that has worked without fail (so far). When a capture gets hung up and won't import I unplug my cable from the USB port at the computer and simply move it to the other USB port. No more wasted time shutting down CaptureOne or the computer itself.

    NN,

Thanks for your insight. I am taking everything into consideration and trying to come up with a viable resolution.

    Hi all,

I am adding some thoughts to my original post. Anyone with insight on the following, feel free to weigh in. Your input is appreciated.

I continue to have issues with Capture One Pro 7 intermittently failing to import files while tethered to my Nikon D800 or D700 using a macbook pro (model id 5,1 late 2008) running OS 10.6.8. The USB cable is securely attached at all times and the camera tab indicates that the camera is still connected during these import failures. The most recent incident involved my Nikon D700 on a shoot the other day. I noticed that files were failing to import but the camera was still able to fire. I turned the camera off and disconnected it from the software, waited a few beats then turned the camera back on. The software did not recognize the camera again.... or so it seemed. I untethered and finished the shoot capturing directly to the cameras CF card.

Today, while not under the pressure of a shoot, I tethered the D700 to C1 Pro 7 again on my macbook pro to see if I could decipher this issue. I turned the D700 off and it disconnected from the software. I turned it back on again and waited. The software did recognize the D700 again but it took 45 seconds to do so. I tried this several more times and it was a consistent 45 second recognition time. I then tethered the D800 to the software and went through the same procedure. C1 Pro 7 only takes 5 seconds to recognize my D800 every time. Not sure what to make of that. I checked for updates for the D700 in C1 Pro 7 preferences but there are none.

The bottom line is that I continue to have instances of intermittent tethered file import failure with both cameras. I am wondering if the model of my macbook pro (late 2008) and the 'not latest' OS ( version 10.6.8 ) could be a factor. I may revert to installing C1 Pro 6.4.5 as someone mentioned earlier, or upgrading to OS 10.8, but want to investigate further. Is there anyone out there using C1 Pro 7 on a quad core i7 (mid 2012) macbook pro running OS 10.8 and tethering Nikon D700/D800? Again, any input is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Dennis
