New Variant sometimes copies color flag, sometimes not.
Hi,
[New Variant] sometimes copies color flag, sometimes not. Sometimes it copies with a color flag that was there in the past on the photo but already changed. Any idea what is the discriminator between these two behaviors? When I have active color filters this means that sometimes I see the new variant, sometimes not. Same occurs to keywords.
Can it be something with the color flag and keywords being present in sidecar XMP as opposed not? Seems to me that New Variant tries to copy "clean, no adjustments" version of the photo but it differs in the option what is the clean version dependant if some metadata is present only in the DB or also in sidecar XMP.
Thanks,

Sorry if you know this already, but do you know the difference between New Variant and Clone Variant? A new variant should be back to the original raw file with no adjustments etc. Clone Variant copies all the adjustments etc. I would expect a Cloned Variant to come with the colour tag, rating etc. but a New Variant not to.

Yeah, aware of that and so far from my experience, everything points to that New Variant uses the data from XMP file. So if you save your tags to XMP, New Variant will reuse your keywords and colors it seems. If you do not, it's a fresh start with no metadata whatsoever. 0
