resize and crop to specific size on output
Hello
I was wondering whether there is a way to resize and crop and image to a certain size on processing the output?
Thanks

Yes. Say you want to resize your image for a 10x8 print. You can define a process recipe for 10x8: set the scale at Dimensions 10 inch x 8 inch. (Don't use the Width x Height option.) Of course, your image may not have that aspect ratio, so you will need to crop it to suit. Long hold the crop button on the toolbar and choose Output. Now you can crop in the aspect ratio of the recipe you have created.

Both of Ian's points are right, and you need to especially pay attention to his second.
My preferred method is to create custom crop settings (right-click with the tool selected). That way I'm assured that my crops fit the output ratio properly. If the custom crop dimensions are for a 1-off use, I delete it after I'm finished with it. If it's something I'll reuse regularly I'll name the Crop preset and it'll stay in the Crop tool's drop-down menu.0 -
Thanks for your replies - sounds to me that this needs to be done manually, right? I'm shooting 3:2 - on output I'd like my pictures to be 1.91:1 (1080x608) - can't figure out a way to do this automatically?! 0 -

Well if you set up a process recipe you only have to do it once.

can't seem to figure out how to do this - I did setup a process recipe - I don't see anything that would allow me to e.g. crop the picture to 1080x608 - I'm only able to enable "respect crop" which requires cropping of each image individually beforehand?!0 -
In the Process Recipe tab, Basic panel, Scale drop-down menu is an item called "width x height". Try that. 0 -

Width x height is annoying: say you set the width x height as 10 inch x 8 inch. The width x height setting combined with the Output setting in crop still leaves the crop unconstrained, so you get it set to 10 inch wide (but not necessarily 8 inch wide) or 8 inch high (but not necessarily 10 inch wide). The Dimensions setting is better: if you set that to 10 inch x 8 inch, and the crop setting to Output, then the crop aspect ratio is constrained to 10 x 8.

Thanks for this tip, Ian. I've never quite understood why the dimensions settings I mentioned don't give consistent results. 0
