PHASE ONE - HOW ABOUT REPLYING?
Ulf, Keith - how about giving PO's point of view?
I can understand that there were commercial reasons for releasing the software now. I also understand that this C1 4 has been created from scratch and will inevitably differ from C1 3.
However, what you're reading in this forum isn't from a bunch of Luddites who dislike change: it's from current C1 3 users who now, among other complaints, find the new version
(a) slower and more awkward to use (e.g. poorly thought-out keyboard shortcuts, no option for a central cache)
(b) unsuited to use on a PC (e.g. randomly placing hundreds of megabytes of data all over one's hard drive with no option to delete them automatically).
I'm not a programmer, but it seems to me that, if PO wished to, many of our complaints could be addressed easily, e.g. changing the awkward keyboard shortcuts, putting in an option to manage the cache/previews as in C1 3.
Also, you said that some of C1 3 were missing from the betas but would be in the release version - which is not the case: the release version is pretty much identical to the betas.
Please be honest - don't be a politician and say "possibly" if you know the answer is "no": if PO are now committed to the C1 4 workflow, tell us, so those of us who cannot work with it can move onwards, either continuing to use C1 3 or choosing another Raw converter.

[color=red:3iwn2gv4]So, Keith and Ulf, can you be honest and tell us: has PO any intention of implementing any of the missing C1 3 functions in a C1 4 upgrade?[/color:3iwn2gv4]

I think their silence speaks volumes. They don't care about their users. They wasted our time with asking us what features we wanted ,having us Beta test and then not caring when their software disappointed their users. I was even lied to about keyboard shortcuts being changed to the same as 3.7.
I guess they are just going to bury their head and ignore the people who have paid for their software.0 -
I agree 100%. Their silence is deafening! While I don't blame anyone for not wanting to face this crowd, too bad, that's their job! I can't believe the negative reaction caught them by surprise because the've been hearing the same thing throughout the beta process. They had to know people were going to raise hell after being led to believe a lot changes were going to be made and then not being made.
At least have the gumption to let us know what PO's response is. Silence is only reinforcing the notion that PO really doesn't give a damn at all what anybody thinks. Personally (and sadly), I think that's probably the most accurate perception.0 -
We are sorry for not being more "active" currently we have alot of request ion our support system (If you want to have support go to http://support.phaseone.com)
This is a USER TO USER forum.
We do prioritize our support system first and secondary monitor the forum. I think this is completely understandable don't you?? Doesn't it make sense that we prioritize direct support requests?
Now to go ahead an say that "We do not give a damn about our customers" is just sad that you even think, or write that, especially when we are a bunch of people working extremely hard for you, our customers.
There is some stuff that not all user like and has alot to do with uniforming the two platforms, the is a very sane thing to do. It will mean that all the features that Windows users have been missing will in the end be available now.
You have to keep in mind that this is the first release of this completely new software, features will come onboard but they might not be there from day one.
To continue with CO3 is simply not an option, CO 3 was a dinosaur which was a software that was very hard to maintain. Which as you might have noticed resulted in a very slow release cycle, this can now change.
When it comes to central cache I can not give you a definitive answer yet. Maybe if there is alot of requests (there seem to be) however how it is working now on windows is how the Mac version has been working for years and it has not been a complaint. It would be very interesting to know why?
To sum up, if you need support from Phase One.. go to Phase One, just like the forum rules say (http://support.phaseone.com) if you want to discuss or get help from fellow photographers. Then write it in here! But read the forum rules before posting.0 -
SO ARE YOU SAYING THAT THERE WILL BE NO 3.7.8??? You people already said that there would be shortly. 0 -

You give us no other choice but to feel this way when you don’t even acknowledge our concerns throughout the VERY short bête program. To be honest it seems as if all you really wanted us to do was your QA departments job. Alpha and Beta programs are supposed to be designed to get user feedback NOT QA release candidate software.[quote="UlfLiljegren" wrote:

So , as with what seems common in society anymore, you’ve decided to remove very functional features to program DOWN to the least common denominator. Here’s an idea… why don’t you lift the feature set of the other platform UP to the level of the windows one instead of dragging down the window version to a lesser performing Mac (I assume) version. Now that would be an UPGRADE.[quote="UlfLiljegren" wrote:

So the truth to the story is this isn’t an upgrade at all; it’s just a totally new software. Ulf, I went through this once myself with a much larger and evolved system and we choose to continue to support the older version, adding support for in my case, high speed scanners, while we worked the newer version up to the full functionality of the version it was replacing. Once that was done the old version was end lifed. To make this right you should at least continue to add new camera support to 3.x until 4.0 matches and exceeds 3.x’s feature set. Once 4x does exceed 3x’s feature set they you can, w/o issue, charge an upgrade price to current users. Better for us because we get new better feature rich software and better for you because the added revenue will help offset the development costs.[quote="UlfLiljegren" wrote:

Maybe it’s because they never had it the other way!!!! Goes back to that least common denominator thing.
Ulf, fact is PO blew it with this “upgrade.†You would have been better served if you had been up front from the beginning and realized that you’d have this sort of push back from long time users. I’ll bet there were even internal discussion about it. I’ve been there and I’ve done that. Who ever made the final decision to offer this release as an “upgrade†completely missed the boat. Its good software, it has some nice features, but it’s certainly not an upgrade and calling it such just makes PO look foolish. It’s NEW software. It will eventually replace the old software but until then you’d be better off, as painful as it may be, to continue support for the 3x version at least in the area of camera profiles and bug fixes. When and only when 4.x is as feature rich as 3.x should you end life 3.x. If this is PO’s intentions, then for goodness sakes let us know because if you don’t many will move on to other converters and you’ll lose a significant number of your long term client base. That just not good business since.0
