CaptureOne 8.2 released
It works so far.
forever locked files have been released 😊.
Tiff loading speed up.
New color Balance looks nice
Curve is better
One small minus: This new version "deleted" my Quick tab.
What means "Dynamic Locations for optimized workflow" ?
Keep going 😊

Dynamic locations means you can import and export to dynamic locations, including creating folders and subfolders with the metadata of the image. e.g. Save images into subfolders named the date the image was taken. It's very handy. Previously this was limited to only the filename, you couldn't create folders with tokens. 0 -

Does this also work with moving your RAW originals out of your catalog into a referenced folder hierarchy or is this only for processed files?
Because this is really missing right now. I want to be able to move my RAW's in and out of the catalog with complete control over the destination hierarchy (see Aperture for how it's done).0 -

So far as I can see it allows you to do this on import. You can specify an import folder (e.g. "Photo Library") and then use the token to specify a detailed destination folder (e.g. "capture year/capture month/capture day" - the tokens may not be exact as i don't have C1 open right now). You can save this as a preset. I see no reason why you can't maintain your import folder structure from Aperture.0 -
the new color balance tool is nice but i would like to see the color values in numbers too. 0 -

Ok, this would be better than nothing and is a big improvement. When I recently imported my first new images into my catalog, it was actually the first time for me since 2005 that I had to manually use the finder to set up a hierarchical folder structure for my originals. 😄
Before I trusted Aperture to manage all my files and because C1 so far seems to offer no elegant way to get your images out of the catalog into a pre-defined folder structure (as referenced), I will stick to this referenced approach. I would really prefer to have everything managed, because I'm really an extremely lazy person. 😉0 -
Do we still have to download the entire software program rather then a update ?
The update window, does not allow a click on.
The last time I had to click on the "Buy Capture" and it worked.
The word "Buy" is always a hesitation.
Thanks0 -
Ok! Never mind !!
I found where it is a full download without hitting the buy button.0 -

This is what I've been waiting for - 😄0 -
Nice update. This release has cleared up my viewer image issues on my 4K displays. Performance when making adjustments is still poor, but this is a nice step towards HiDPI display support.
I'm curious though, what are some use cases for the new colour balance tool? It seems like a feature that no-one was asking for. 😕 Personally, I would have preferred to see improvements to the advanced color editor... maybe they will implement this style of control for that tool next release?0 -

It is color split toning by another model. Tonnes of people have asked for it.0 -

If you use the Folders section of the Library panel, you can create any folder structure you want, and you can drag-n-drop images from inside the catalog to any of those folder locations in order to move the images outside of the catalog package. This is similar to the Relocate Originals feature in Aperture, except you use drag-n-drop instead of a menu selection.
I know how the Folder section works with the drag-and-drop. But this is not what I need, because I have to set up the Folders in the Finder myself and I can't place the images automatically based on the EXIF data in these folders.
"Relocate Originals" in Aperture does exactly that: you select a bunch of images in the browser, in my case recently the whole library at once, point Aperture to a destination on a HD and then let Aperture build a folder hierarchy based on the EXIF data, for example YEAR>MONTH>DAY (of shooting) and then Aperture relocated the master files out of the library into these new folders. It is basically setting up everything outside of the library the exact way you want it. Using this neat feature I was able to switch my whole library of 27.000 images within a few minutes from managed to referenced.
Thanks to this great feature the migration to C1 was actually a breeze (if we forget the C1 importer bugs for a moment). And as long as I don't have such a feature in C1, I don't want to go the "managed library" route, as much as I would prefer it on the long run.0 -
I have the first major bug after upgrading to 8.2: C1 seems to "forget" image adjustments I made yesterday, for example Rotation settings or the overall Exposure/Curve of some pictures are totally off. ☹️
Update: it's not only what I edited yesterday, ALL my adjustments so far since my Aperture migration are GONE! 🤬0 -

I wrote a review on Capture One Pro 8.2, if you're interested. A description of the changes small and large.
You can find it here:

Thanks very helpful.
So the colour balance control is really more for adding style, not for corrections? Can you use it to add warmth to shadows that might otherwise be a bit blue/cool?0 -
I feel that the brush with mask on is much faster than it used to be. Very smooth for me now.
Also, I thought that my personal tab was gone, but I just had to select the right workspace - and presto!
Nice update PhaseOne!0 -

I think that is a nice way to describe the tool's function.[quote="VirtualRain" wrote:

I am under the impression that local adjustments with white balance correction is more appropriate.0 -

Sure. To me, it's the tone-specific correction tool I've been waiting for (Highlights/Midtones/Shadows).0 -
I thought Aperture had something similar to this under their "Tint" sub-brick. Instead of highlights, midtones, and shadows Apple called it Black, Grey, and White. It's actually very handy! I missed this tool, especially when camera-scanning negatives. It should be possible to get very accurate color balance now. 0 -

Yes, it is free.0 -
So happy 3-way colour sliders have been introduced!! Long awaited feature 😊
Now my only things on the wish list is the ability to create shortcuts for "new capture folder" as well as a shortcut for "reset capture counter" as I always start each shot folder with e.g Shot1_001 (and when you do 50 looks a day this would really streamline the workflow).0 -

I was playing around a little with 8.2 today and found out, that with the File>Export Images>Originals command it IS possible to set a folder structure based on tokens, including the date of the shoot. But of course this is just a copy job, it does not relocate the files and switch them from managed to referenced.
I think this would make an excellent feature request: built-in methods for moving stored images to referenced locations using built-in presets and user-defined folder structures. Built-in presets of folder structures could use date paths, mirror your catalog structure, etc. User-defined folder structures could reference metadata, tokens that represent Capture One image or catalog items, etc.
So the framework for this is already there. All Phase One would need to do is implement a "Relocate Originals" feature using this exact same export window.0 -
The new 8.2 does not work with the Nik software, when I go to edit with it opens the software but doesn't move the pic in, hopefully they will correct this 0 -

I've had no trouble round-tripping to NIK Viveza with 8.2 (aside from the known issue of a slight color shift on green/yellow tones upon re-importing the TIFF after)... which NIK plugin are you trying to use?0 -
From a digital tech's perspective, 8.2 is buggy and unusable on-set in a tethered environment. 0 -

Can you elaborate on this. Digi tech here too and haven't yet tried 8.2 but was about to upgrade. Thanks!0 -

Please elaborate so we can escalate this properly as to what you have seen. Maybe there is a problem. Statements like this are un-constructive however. For example I don't even know if this is DSLR or Phase One you have experienced issues.
From a tech I would at least expect detail as to what camera, what connection type, what OS etc and if you have followed standard procedure for power supply and software troubleshooting.

Better still, make a support case so we can get your logging info and we will try to help you figure out a solution.0 -
I'm on Mac OS 10.9.5. I had a 5d mk 3 tethered. First sign of bugs is Info is incomplete under the image in the viewer. Specifically the image number is missing. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not. Next problem is whenever I changed a folder name in the session the software crashed. 0
