Enabling Camera Capture Counter in 3.7.1 File Name.
I've been successfully using Pro 3.5 with my 1Ds in a tethered studio shooting scenario for some time. With a recent computer upgrade, I've done a brand new, onto-clean-drive install, (running XP) of 3.7.1. Installed Canon Solutions Disc V7.0.
No problems with operating and capturing as I did previously with 3.5, with the sole exception that I cannot get the Camera Capture Counter to override a session numbering sequence. I've obviously ticked the Camera Counter Box under the Capture Options Tab. The Capture Number is showing in the Capture ID ( Camera S/N: Capture No.), but not as part of the file name.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, John.

John,
I also am having a problem with 3.7.1 where the software wont use the camera numbering at all. It starts each session with 000001. this happens on both my 1ds and 20d. Ive had a support case open for months and I havent gotten an answer yet if they are going to fix this in the next upgrade. Can you start a new session and not have to close the program and restart it to recognize the new session? Im doing jobs where I may have up to 30-50 session names on the same job and closing and restarting CO is not an option. I'm using ver 1.3 on my 1ds cus it works flawlessly but I's sure like to use my 20d and get ver 3.7.1 to work the same. I am on a PC with window xp and I cant get it to work on any of my 4 different computers.

Paul,
Unfortunately, we'll all have to Wait and See what the next update brings. You won't get an answer about this fix and either will Support. Your Case was Closed and finished with:Please submit to R&D team through Technical Support... from the software, and we'll do the same.
... or something similar. This is all you can do, and this is all Support can do.
John,
Version 3.5 used a different SDK file from Canon is all I can tell you.
The naming issue is frustrating I understand, but the ability to rename captures to whatever you desire is rather easy.
Once you have all images for a Session captured:
1. Highlight all the Thumbnails
2. Enter a name in the Next Capture Name window ( if only want # enter a zero)
3. Click the apply name to selected capture icon
Bugs Reported with Canon Tethered Shooting:
Set-up tether > capture > Thumbnail arrives and Preview displays > Open/Create new Session > capture > Thumbnail arrives > Preview image fails to display
>>> must close application and start again for Previews to display
Camera Naming > in-camera setting to be Continuous > each Session begins anew ignoring the exif data and starts at 2
Sincerely,

Paul & Keith,
(Keith, I was halfway through writing this reply when your response was posted, so your name has been added)
I raised a support case, and after some toing and froing, the inability of 3.7.1 to utilize the camera capture counter has been acknowledged as a bug, again citing (as Keith does) SDK differences between 3.5 & 3.7 as the cause. So I've gone back to using 3.5 for my capture work. The camera capture number is an integral link in my filing system.
Paul, I've never had a problem with my 1Ds creating a session (clicking on the new session folder icon) and it being recognized immediately. (\"The session 12345_ABC doesn't exist Do you wish to create...?\") It then appears as a new blank tabbed page, with the camera icon. Never had to close/re-open for it to be recognized. Despite the numbering bug, this was also the case with 3.7.1. The only suggestion I could make would be to ensure you have the latest camera drivers installed, but I reckon you've probably done that anyway.
