    A similar question :

Has anybody compared the latest nvidea's with the latest amd's?
For example the 650 or 660 with the 7770/7850/7870 type of GPU's?

I am going to try the Nvidia GTX 560. Today is the last day on Amazon to get a $30 rebate from Evga on this card so the final price is $139. Tech support said to check the bench marks at Tom's Hardware but it appears they changed the benchmarks they use from the year my card is listed (2010) to the year this card is listed (2011). If there isn't improved performance I may just return the card and run with OpenCL turned off. One area of improvement would be getting back from shooting with 1K - 2K worth of pictures and not having to wait an hour for C1 to do the pre-processing on all the thumbnails and build the cache. It seems that once you go above the 500 series your generally need PCI Express 3.0 on your motherboard for Nvidia cards and I don't plan to upgrade my mainboard, processor, and 12 GB memory just for C1 when everything else runs fine.

I just installed the EVGA GTX 560 Super-clocked card with 2 GB ram and my processing issue of having a black output TIFF file with OpenCL turned on has been fixed. I have OpenCL turned on for viewing and processing and it does seem a lot faster with just a 5 minute test. Also, while converting a file I am able to go and view another file without hesitation. I'll have to see if it solves some of the other issues but at least I have 2 improvements so far.

    Hi

What do you mean with a lot faster? Does it makes a big difference with openCL on or off? A factor 5 or something like that?

I don't know if it's 5 times as fast but it seems to have solved all my problems and using version 7 is very enjoyable now. It's fast enough and well worth the upgrade from the GeForce 9800 GT 1GB that I was running yesterday and having all sorts of problems, even with OpenCL turned off. My next speed test will be to process a new folder of raw files and see how fast it builds the thumbnails and cache.

It doesn't seem to affect the speed that the initial thumbnails and cache are built, but everything else is faster with no problems when you are working in C1.
