Sure, if they are supported video formats.

Storing and reference only, except for Cinema DNG format where editing is possible. Not experienced in the area however.

My experience is that the answer is no. C1 will not import video files from either my Nikon D800 or my iPhone 6. I contacted Phase One support and they said that C1 does not support movie files.

Oddly, if I run the Aperture importer, C1 will import my old D800 and iPhone video files from my Aperture library, including metadata such as keywords and star ratings. C1 will display that data and play the movie files but I cannot change the meta data.

Here is the response I got from support:

Then why did it import all my movie files (iPhone+DSLR) from my Aperture library as well as import new movies I just recently shot with my DSLR?

Yesterday, I put in a feature request and received this response today:

    Hi John,

Capture one is a raw converter, if you want to manage the video you can try media pro http://www.phaseone.com/en/Imaging-Soft ... a-Pro.aspx

    Regards
    Phase One Support

This is very discouraging. I had the impression that Phase One wanted C1 to be more than a mere raw converter and that Phase One had ambitions to compete with Lightroom.

Surely that depends on choosing the ground for the competion?

Phase, so far as I know, has no obvious ambition to break into the video market with its camera offerings.

Abobe, so far as I know, has no ambition to develop and sell Medium Format (or any other) cameras.

Adobe does have software already, sold into different vertical markets within it "Creative" offerings, that specialises in video. So to pick some components from that to include in the more "enthusiast" non-specialist markets should be relatively easy and inexpensive for them. Indeed it would be a surprise if they didn't do it.

Conversely for Phase, with no products in the video market, to decide to provide a similar level of support with high demand from their Pro customers would be surprising - at least at this time. Especially as they can offer (at least notionally) the alternative of the Media Pro product for the basic DAM functionality that seems to be the main part of current demand in this forum from Aperture convertees.

Video support may at some point become a "must have" application for photo oriented software vendors but that moment may not yet be right for the majority of the Phase/Capture One primary audience.

    Just my opinion of course.

Thought i would run a test on this.

I am able to create a catalog and import referenced video files from my Canon HV30 ( video files captured from tape using Final Cut Pro X), Nikon AW100 and Nikon D750. I can catalog, create groups, albums , projects and play them in Capture One 8.2.2. Not unexpectedly, there is no editing capability of the video files, I can only catalog, organize and play them.

The catalog can contain raw , jpeg and mov files in the same album.

Absolutely. I have no idea what people here in this thread and what Phase One Support are talking about. Is this a window into some kind of parallel universe, where a C1 Pro 8 version exists without movie support?

Again, to answer the original question posted by Chris Gibbs: yes, you can.
