No complaint here!
I see a lot of complaints and I'm sure there are some things to work through for version 8.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this very nice update. As a brand new C17 user coming from Aperture, I was finding it intolerable while trying to manage the 22K photo library. It would take several minutes for the application to start and sometimes 5 minutes after making an edit to metadata for a single picture.
With version 8, the same catalog flies through, is very responsive and behaving as I hoped it would.
Again, thank you PhaseOne!

It might be an "update" ("nice" or otherwise), but we're not all sure it's an improvement - and that's a legitimate matter to express concern about.0 -

It will depend on what you expect. To me personally, this is a great update, and that is because with v8, the Highlight/Shadows tool finally helps produce very natural looking images, which is a big deal when you want to preserve highlight detail or open up the shadows. Colors look better when using this tool. In previous versions, the tool never convinced me. The tools available on layers (local adjustments) finally make sense. Batch CA correction is something I was hoping for.
Perhaps others would have liked a more spectacular upgrade with v8, but it is a tangible improvement without doubt.

The speed alone is worth the update for me. I'm seeing processing photos go at least twice as fast. Everything about using the program is now snappier and quicker to work with. For those of us that shoot events and the like, where there are lots of photos involved, this will shave lots of time off editing / getting images to clients. Maybe the upgrade price seems excessive to some but in my case that's going to pay for itself within a few days of work. I haven't always been happy with what they've put out as paid update versions but in this case, it's all win for me. 0 -
Feel free to express that concern on your own. Not sure why you feel you have the right to tell me that I can't be satisfied with the update. I'm a glass half full kinda person and appreciate the work they've done. You don't, that's fine. Just keep the rain on your side of the parade. [quote="Keith Reeder" wrote:

My experience so far is that v8 is:
1) Stable (but I didn't have stability with v7 to be fair)
2) A lot quicker and easier to operate in all areas
3) The improved UI (which we didn't need?) means I can select sliders with my wacom tablet without having to resort to the mouse
4) Highlight tool is actually usable now for people shots - it doesn't compress the mid-tones into oblivion and the difference in areas which weren't blown-out is marked.
5) More complete local adjustment tools - a huge improvement
6) Grain emulation is very nice and can be made very subtle, which is how I like it
There's probably a lot more but I've only just scratched the surface.
Is this a great update? Unequivocally yes
Should all this stuff have been included and or worked properly in version 7? Also yes.0 -

I haven't updated yet - but if using a Wacom and Capture One together is no longer a painful process - I'll be looking forward to it (not that something like that couldn't have been fixed in previous versions- bug not a feature).0 -
V8 working well here too!
Shot all day tethered with Canon 1DX using both 2013 Retina MacBook Pro and new Mac Pro 3.5 Ghz 6 Core both running Mavericks 10.9.2 without a single problem.
Also briefly tried V8 under Yosemite Beta and it seemed fine - I wouldn't use this as my main working set up, obviously, but it is good to know that initial tests are positive.
Processing very quick and no artefacts in processed files.
Love the user interface - thanks Phase One! Ian, Manchester, UK0 -

And were did I say that?
Where did I say anything remotely like that?
It'd be great if we could stay focused on what people actually write, rather than what you imagine they've written...
Seriously. Reading comprehension is a valuable skill to cultivate.0 -

I expected the promised improvement in the rendering and the NR, neither of which I'm seeing.0 -
Hi Keith,
Whether you agree or not, some users are (very) happy with CO8 and like to express that like the title of the thread clearly states. That attracts other people who like to share their appreciation. I do not see the point in correcting or criticizing other person's joy.
I much value you opinion and look forward to your thread on rendering and NR in CO8. I believe that your eloquent analysis in the past has helped users and Phase One stay in focus.
Then we all benefit from this forum.0 -
After some usage here a bit of minor problems:
Negative
* In session when quickly changing folders there is often a full crash.
* The highlight recover for highlights seems to recover much less highlights than before, I never had issues with too much mid tone compression (imo) but that I can't recover more from the top is a bit sad
* the sliders are much less visible where they actually are
* can't resize floating elements if they are stacked together individual, only combined. Also open/closing stacked ones is like before a bit strange in the layout, it gets confused often.
* The Curve tool is still utterly small and doesn't get bigger if the toolbar is made bigger. WHY?
* Catalogue still strange with no parent folder showing all child folder images or ctrl/cmd click various folder and show data [what kind of catalog is that actually?]
Positive
* much faster in the user interface interactions
* heal/clone tools [thought very strange limited to one per layouer?]
So, yeah to be honest, luke warm most for me. Well see more when I do some compare C8/C7 converts. But right now I am not jumping up and down like when C7 was released.0 -

And again Paul, I'm not saying others are wrong, or that they can't express an opnion that happens not to match mine.
I'd really appreciate it if my comments weren't characterised in that way - believe me, you'd all know if that's the point I was making.
I'm simply expressing my opinion, which happens not to accord completely with that of some others. I'm allowed that privilege (which I recognise as such) too, as far as I'm aware. It's frustrating, and damaging to proper discussion, when people read intent into a comment which - on careful reading - clearly isn't there.
I'll also politely remind you that you yourself have made observations similar to mine - that you're not seeing as much difference in the results from 8 compared to 7 as we've been led to believe we might expect, either. And it's a perfectly reasonable comment to make, isn't it?
So let's keep my comments in proportion and in context, please. I don't take very kindly to being wilfully misrepresented, which the contributor up the page seemed hell-bent on doing.0
