Feature Request - Alphabetical Sorting of Catalog Sets
The catalogue set structure that I currently use is broken down between Work and Personal clients. Within the Work side of things it is further broken down by Client, and then specific jobs related to each client. Within that final nested Job sub-category I have all of the different setups/locations that I have shot (I shoot a lot of travel editorial). These I arrange by alphabetical sorting (clients are also sorted that way).
Currently (as far as I am aware) there is no way to automatically sort categories, or sub-categories, alphabetically. It seems like this would be a simple feature to implement; after all, all of the location information in the 'Place Finder' is automatically sorted this way. This also means that for people who sort their work by a date in the catalogue set name, the alphabetical sorting would also work. In an ideal world you would be able to choose how many layers deep this sorting would go - for example, only sort the top-level catalogue sets; or sort 3-deep within them. Etc. etc.
It would be a huge organizational boon to have this simple tweak.

It needs to be optional - part of the value of sets is that they can be ordered arbitrarily. Also sets can be multi-level, so any sorting would have to take account of a desire to keep on set arbitrary, while sorting another set alphabetically.
Maybe you should also use custom fields as these are structured and sort automatically?0 -

I totally agree that this needs to be optional. But so many other programs - from Excel, to Outlook, to Mindjet allow users to selectively organize segments of their information in this manner. This should be a simple 'right click' on the Catalogue Set in question and a 'sort alphabetically'. Presto. Done. You could (as other programs do) have the option to have this sorting penetrate as many levels of the tree as you want.
I am including a link here ()to a pretty typical Catalogue for me, where clients are arranged alphabetically, then shoots within each client. For me it is not practical to create 65+ (in the case of the shoot here) custom fields. Instead I would love for each setup/location to be entered as a sub-category and then automatically sorted alphabetically.
It seems like a simple bit of gymnastics for a database to perform,
