Adjustment Layers Mask lost when moving to selects

    An experiment idea ....

Using your copied file in the Selects folder, what happens if you create a cloned variant?

Also what does the preview look like? Modified with the layer adjustments or not modified?

If, rather than dragging and dropping, you use the "Move to Selects Folder" option does it give you the same result?

Just a few things to check before deciding how to progress with this challenge.

I just had this happen to me to. I had a difficult outdoor wedding in a forest setting and used the Gradient Mask on multiple layers. 40 plus shots moved to the "Select Folder" that were layered. Although the layers showed up in the "Local Adjustment" box, all adjustments were lost on all the layers. I deleted those layers and had to start all over again, a lot of lost time on this shoot. Hi All,
So I have done some more experimentation. And can re-create the issue.

So if I add an adjustment layer, and them move to selects with either drag and drop or the "move to selects" command, the layer mask disappears.

The clone variant, makes no different, and re-render previews does not work either. But I did notice that it is only after I exit C1 that this happens.

make adjustment

move to selects

all seems still good.

exit c1

launch c1

masks are gone.
Moving the image back to the capture folder makes no difference. (in case anyone is wondering)

    Thanks for the suggestions Grant.

So I am running windows 10
    AMD 8core FX
    have an ATI video card
Local SSD is where the images are, and were moved to (ie the same local disc)

I'm sorry to hear this John, I've opened a support case for this issue given I can re-create it easily.

I'll report back if I hear more.. (I will try the same thing on a Mac to see if it is just a windows issue)

    Certainly sounds like a problem.

The masks are held in a .comask file alongside the .cos files.

I hardly ever use the "Selects" feature so I'm not sure of the effect on files and locations but it occurs to me that either the file is moving and the session database is not being correctly updated (for some reason) or the session database IS being updated but the file is not being moved successfully.

If not those suggestions then something else is influencing the operation either pre or post move.

One other possibility is some sort of "silent" "corruption" problem with the session file that may not be visible even to the Verify program. Maybe something that does not affect C1 internally but has an effect on the way that external programs it calls will respond, especially when using low level routines to write to disks.

Pure speculation though on my part.

Let's see what Support come up with.

Ok so I've done some more investigation, thanks Grant for the info about the .comask files.

Create the mask on an image, the .comask is there, say 2mb for some playing around. (verified by looking in the directory)

When I move it to any folder, the .comask file is not copied across. (ie using C1 to move the image to the selects, or back)

The preview file that is copied across makes it look like it is still there, and the anchor point is there, but no mask (or mask file)

looking in the Settings82 directory shows the file was not copied. the basic .cos is there, but not the .comask.

So I created a new session on another drive (network drive this time), and added just 1 image file. Same problem, .comask not copied.

I grabbed my Macbook, and repeated the same step, and the .comask was copied no problem.

So it looks like an 8.3.3 windows 10 issue (thus far for me) if support suggest rolling back to an earlier version of C1, i will try that, but just waiting for support to contact me, and keeping this as a log of what I have tried.

Also so others know there is possibly an issue (well for me at least) and what is causing it.. ie don't move the images around 😊

    Paul,

That looks like good solid analysis.

I would suggest you add that description to the Support Case you registered straight away - it may well save the supporter allocated to the case quite a lot of time.

    Hi All,
Just an update, support have recreated the issue, and raised a bug to fix the issue.

So for now, I would suggest that if you are on windows (maybe only windows 10) and if you are in session mode (I have not tried catalogue mode) DON'T move your images around from within C1.

Thank you Paul, that explains one case with a client when my adjustment mask was lost.
