Can not edit images.

Hi I'm new to Capture One which purchased after switching from Aperture, I mention about the fact Ive purchased capture one incase there is something I have missed in the purchase process to do with my issue.

I've imported my images into a catalogue which I will be using for my documentary work, Ive followed the tutorials but, when I got to edit the photos the controls are not active, why would this be, Ive viewed the tutorials but this issue is not covered.
Any help really appreciated.

  A pretty basic question - do you have an image selected? The controls are not active until an image is selected.

  Did you run the trial period before purchase? If so did things work then?
  
  One quite common situation is that you may have selected DB (Digital Back) mode when first starting C1 after installation.
  
  DB mode is the free version but editing only works with files Phase supported Digital backs. I'm guessing you may really need the "Pro" mode (or the Pro equivalent Sony mode).
  
  DB mode, being free, does not require activation .... but in turn that means it never asks for an activation code or offers the opportunity to enter one.
  
  If that is what has happened there are instructions in the forum about how to rectify the situation and we can seek them out for you. Let us know.
  
  However if that is NOT the case we need to look for something else so there may be a few questions bouncing back and forth. You may also want to create a Support Case to get some official input although I am mindful that it is Easter weekend and I am not sure what Technical Support options may be available.
