I recently installed Capture One Pro 11.3 ( Fuji edition ) and have run into a problem doing B&W conversions. Every time I try and create a new adjustment layer the image reverts to colour. Is this intended, or am I doing something wrong ?

All I'd like to do is use gradient tool or use levels/curves for dodging & burning.

Are you using the Free Express version or are you trialling the Pro version?

As I recall the Black and White tool is part of the Pro specification rather than Express.

You can trial the Pro version (Full Pro of the Pro for Fuji version that only offers RAW support for Fuji files) for 30 days in its fully functional form if you want to try it.

    HTH.

I got the same behavior. If I enable B&W on a background layer, as soon as I add new Adjustment layer it reverts back to color.

@Grant: The free "Express" version doe not have layers function.

Good point. I should have referred to the differences document first to remind myself about what is and is not included before answering - although it seems the question does not matter anyway as far as the original post is concerned.

What you have observed is not something I recall seeing. Which tool were you using on the layer (is it tool specific?)

I have run a quick test to check and so far have not seen the behaviour you mention.

    A quick thought.

Do you have 'View selected colour range' active in the Colour editor tool? (In the View Menu the option seems to work a little differently).

    Grant,

You got this one 100% (in my case, anyway).

    Thanks

Glad it was that easy though it is one of those 'not something you would think about until you have experienced it a few times' situations.

The varied options available are potentially very powerful for nuanced workflow situations but unless one is using them frequently they are also easy to forget.

Hence why it was an hour or so and a few minutes playing with the tools that had been mentioned before I thought about it.
