Why has 1Ds thethered support been dropped from 4.6

I still have and use a 1Ds and would like to not have to still run 3.6 in order to have tethered shooting. Why was it dropped?

  Canon dropped support from its SDK for this type on which 3rd party developers like PO are dependent.
