Capture One 8 Pro for Sony -- Can't Open Some Images
Just installed Capture One 8 Pro for Sony. I tried to open/import a directory of .DNG files that were previously imported by Lightroom from the Sony a7 RAW files. Of about 150 images in the directory, Capture One only displays and offers to import about 1/3 of them. Any idea why and if there's a solution? Would there be a problem with .DNG files that had been tweaked in Lightroom and had metadata and history added to the files?

Not sure but my best bet is that the Sony versions are limited to the original raw files to make the special deal possible. A DNG file can be from any camera. If in doubt, open a support case and upload an image file in your case.
By the way, you do not want the converted DNG files in CO8. Open some images, in both converted DNG and original, in CO8 Pro (60-day trial) and see what I mean.0 -

Correct
Sony run mode supports Sony files. Converting to DNG makes them "not" Sony files and are therefore not supported.0 -
The same problem here. I've tried trial version (both Sony and Pro) and Capture One 8 can't see DNGs converted from original ARW files. It doe's see DNGs converted by Lightroom from Canon CR2 files. Any solution? 0 -

Use the original raw files in CO Pro 8 (Sony). Converted raws (to DNG) can be opened in CO Pro 8, but you should be aware of the version of DNG. Recent converters from Adobe use a later DNG version than COP8 supports.0 -
Thank you Paul for your prompt response. The only (my) problem is, I don't have original raws anymore, only converted ones. Is there any possibility that in some near future CO Pro 8 will support newest raw converter from Adobe? 0 -

Maybe, but I do not have such information. You could address this directly to Phase One in a support case if you like.0 -
I ran into this problem too, images converted with ACR 8.7 (7.1 or later?) seem incompatible.
This seems to be the only issue to overcome before switching 😊
I was thinking of exporting all images to an older DNG, and which is advised?
2.4 / 4.1 / 4.6 / 5.4 / 6.6
Of course is keeping the latest version preferable I'd think?
edit: 4.6 seems to work0 -
I found this topic searching on Google. I'm in the same situation, but with Windows version. DNGs v4.6 work, but I'll never convert thousand of photos to an older version. I'll ask to support. 0 -
If you use the Pro version (non Sony) it should work, however CO only supports DNG in a very generic manner so you can end up with very odd colours. I had this same issue with my Nikon cameras I had converted my NEF raws to DNG but they looked terrible in CO. I hadn't kept my original raw files either, big mistake !
I no longer use DNG (past few years) as it doesn't provide me with anything useful and only adds to issues with non Adobe software. It also interferes with my backup strategy.
I use Lightroom for my older dng files and CO with all my new raw files. You could export the dng files to a tiff / jpg if you wanted to add them to your CO catalog. You won't get the CO raw conversion for them but you may not want it anyway once you have seen it.0 -
I've got an "official" answer, as support suggested me to use DNG 4.6, so I have a workaround to test it.
I use dng as it's faster to load and uses less space, as my camera has 36 megabytes raws, while dng often goes from less than 7 and up. There are photos I don't want to keep in raw, which before I converted in jpegs, now I use dng that use the same space and in case allows me to edit again from scratch. Important photos (which aren't that many) are kept in raw.0
