RAW-dataformat and C1
Hello at all,
some people says, that f.e. phase one doesn't know the data-informations of the rawfiles from the different manufacturer like Canon, Nikon, Pentax and so on, so they have to re-engineer their converters to fit.
Does someone know about this? I can't believe to extract the data out of the raw-files on try and error!!!
Greets

Wolfgang,
Sorry, not sure I understand what it is you are asking... specifically.0 -
I try to say it in another way.
The RAW-files are different between the manufacturers and also their camera-models. So you have f. e. *.crw or *.cr2 and so on. The picture-data in this files have different descriptions what a Converter have to read out. Therefore f. e. PhaseOne have to know the data-descriptions.
Some people affirm that the manufacturers keep the data-descriptions only for their own, they don't tell it, so f. e. PhaseOne has to develop his RAW-reader by itself, without any help of Canon.0 -
Yes, this is often completely true, Wolfgang - Canon, Nikon and the others keep many secrets about their RAW file formats.
Phase One (and Adobe, and most others) must "reverse engineer" these files in order to process them well.0 -
Some files are "reverse-engineered", some are provided to us and some we aren't "allowed" to access. It's a tricky business. 0 -
I assume this is part of the reason why only the camera manufacturer converter (at least for Canon) can match the in camera jpeg. Of course the other probably larger factor is the algorithms used. 0 -

That is much more the case. The JPEG compression Algorithm that they use (in Camera) is there own and it would take a great stroke of luck or insider info to duplicate.0 -
Thanks for the information. I thought myself in this way.
Anyway I any time really impressed of the high quality output in JPEG with C1, and the correction-possibilities.0
