Is there a CPU Usage Issue, Seems Excessive?
Downloaded the 30 day trial this week. I began importing files and it appears that the MacPro wi working overtime.
The activity utility shows Media Pro2 using 50-95% of the CPU.
My MacPro is configured like this:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 32 GB
The computer is working so hard that it is generating a lot of heat and the fans are now running at what appears to full speed. It almost seems like MP2 is locking up and just using the CPU capacity without doing anything. The little spinning indicator never stops.
Suggestions?
I like the program, it obviously needs some work, but I am hesitant to purchase if this is the type of performance I can expect.

When adding images to a catalog, Media Pro renders so-called “Proxies†– that is, thumbnails and larger previews – from the original RAW data. Depending on the amount of images, file type and file sizes you added to your trial catalog this initial render can take a lot of time and stress the CPU heavily.
i.e. it might be the previews rendering that generate the loads you observe. On the other hand, Media Pro seems flaky for some/many here in the forums so it might just as well be a program glitch.
How many image files did you add to the trial catalog, and what size/format are these images? For reference, I added 2000 images to a catalog yesterday which took about half an hour. (MacBook Pro i7 2.6GHz, 12-18MP DNG files.)

Hi Sascha,
I was importing quite a few images, probably somewhere around 18,000 files. Many were Phase One P45 images, some were Canon, and some were Leica M8/9 images. I am sure that this was an issue of the initial import and the preview rendering.
I let it run last night unattended. This morning, the CPU usage is back to normal and all is good.
So far, I like MediaPro and I am sure that each upcoming update will make it better and better. I love C1 and find it processes my images in a way that, for me, is superior to LR. I find the C1 processed images have a presence and glow that I don't see in my LR processed images. The missing key for me has been the cataloging software.
I believe that I will be purchasing MediaPro as a result of the trial.
Thanks
