Using SE. cropped verticals rotate, exposing black canvas

It's likely something simple, but I'm giving up. \"Somebody Help Me!\"

I'm using PhaseOne SE. When converting RAW to jpeg, no problem with the horizontals, but the verticals are coming our different than cropped. Looks like the image is rotating 90 degrees, leaving the bottom portion of the canvas black, and cutting off the top of the photo....a big thanks to anybody who can diagnose my problem...:

    Not positive, but it appears that my problem was solved when I unchecked the box In Preferences for \"Do NOT Rotate Image (according to orientation)\". Whatever that means.
