Application, Catalog, Referenced Images – Best Location?
I'm seeing info scattered around the forum as to workflow and storage setups, but I'm just wondering if there's a quick consensus on how to arrange the various pieces of data for optimized performance.
I'm coming from Aperture slowly over the past year, and I had a split SSD/HDD setup that worked great. The Application was on my boot SSD, Library (Catalog) on a 7200rpm HDD, and Referenced Masters on a second 7200rpm HDD.
Does that sound like a good setup for C1? Keeping in mind I'd like to not fill up my boot SSD with Catalogs and images that aren't being currently used. Would the Catalog or Originals location make much of a difference in performance?
Thanks,
Rob

Keeping your catalog on the SSD will show better performance than on a 7200rpm HDD. The majority of read/write by Capture One will be to the catalog's database file (the cocatalogdb) and having this on a rotational disk will be notably slower. The source files can be maintained on a rotational disk, as they will be of lesser importance once they're imported into the catalog.
Of course, in an ideal setting, keeping everything on fast SSDs will be the best option.0
