Large memory consumption

CO will use any memory it needs. There's no point having 16 GB of RAM if they stay unused.

    Similar config here.
Loaded a catalog of 10k cr2 images in v9, 774MB, on initial load.
Loaded the same catalog upgraded in v10, 839MB. Close to 10% more.
Keep in mind that CO buffers viewed images in RAM. So size increases with each image viewed, until CO starts releasing/reusing memory.

There is (at least) one little memory leak carried over from v9 to v10. Whenever you close a session/catalog and open another or the same one again, it uses 60-250MB more RAM. This can be continued until CO becomes unresponsive and crashes. So it is better to close CO completely to change sessions or catalogs. (Support case filed.)

I cannot confirm the 'no bug at all'. I have an OpenCL issue with my MBPr mid2014. With OpenCL for display 'on', I cannot see the mask while drawing it. (Support case filed.)

Overall, I have more responsiveness and speed in v10. And I, too, like the new jpeg engine and Recipe Proofing.

    Regards,
    Hans

Exact same experience for me - I have a paid license for Capture One Pro 9.3 and I eagerly uploaded the 30-day trial for Pro 10. That process asked me to approve "upgrading my Catalog" to Pro 10 and I accepted the "innocent" request. Now, I cannot get back into Pro 9.3 at all - it won't open. Advice from tech support has not helped me to repair the catalog backup for Pro 9.3

Then I tried to use the 30-day trial of Pro 10, mostly unsuccessfully, as each mouse click results in the "spinning beachball" and total iMac freeze. This is due to a massive memory consumption that is coming from some place. This never occurred to me with my Pro 9.3 program.

I have filed a tech support case, but if I can't find a remedy, I guess I will be ending my years of Capture One use and looking for a competition RAW processing software.

C1P is now a very competitive and feature-full software. PhaseOne should spend the next year just one fixes and optimisation.

If you read the dialog-box again, you will also see that it mentions a backup. If you load the backup, you are good to go on 9.3 again.

    Thanks Hans.
    It makes sense.
I opened C1 v10 this morning, and I had "only" 1.5 GB used, which may be considered as normal. Each time I open an image full size, the memory use increases, which looks like what you say.

Dear Christian, please give me the complete instructions to "load the backup". What I received so far from tech support is not sufficient for my non-IT mind to accurately perform the "lold the backup" set of instructions that may be simple for you to do, but not for me..

    Hi all,

I downloaded v10 this morning, and I appreciate a lot the new softproofing tool, with the possibility of sharpening for specific and chosen output recipes. Together with the improvement of the jpeg output quality. This version seems to be a little bit faster than the v9. And no bug at all until now !!

However, my computer (MacBook Pro Retina 15", early 2014, i7 2.3 GHz, 16 GB RAM, SSD 512 GB) uses a significant part of its memory for that version 10 : more than 5 GB, when compared with 3.5 GB for v9 (which was already not so small IMHO).
Any leak ? Any trick to reduce it ?
I have a catalog of about 17,000 + pictures (DNG, CR2, TIFF) with referenced files on an external HDD.
    Thanks,
    Robert

I have noticed that as well, in my short time testing out v10. While they were able to finally close the massive memory leak from v9.1 to v9.2, a smaller instance of that seems to be back. With v9.2/v9.3 it would level out at about 2.5-3GB, max 3.5GB. With v10 so far, I'm quickly getting up to 5.5GB. It's not as bad as v9.1 and prior versions where it could easily go above 12GB.

But let's hope they bring that 5.5GB back down to 3.5GB again. I still have more to test but will file a report if it stays high.

    Not at all.

I would only start to get worried if it using more than half of your total RAM. Definitely if going over total amount.

Maybe the new soft proofing or "under the hood" changes use more RAM.

There is for sure a bug in the calatogue remove keyword flow as this will use up memory to no end.

If I select images from a keyword, select them all (also have "use on all variants" on) and then unselect a keyword in the keyword list, the memory usage will just balloon to the point where OS X will start killing processes.

    Not fun at all.
