gradient mask issue

Not sure if this is my computer or Cap One but I'm having issues drawing a gradient mask from the bottom of the image up. Both sides and top work great but when drawing from the bottom, it takes several clicks to invoke the mask.
This has happened before but somehow the problems fixed itself. Now it's back.
Anybody ever have this problem?
