Cleanup after upgrades

I've always wondered about this as well but like you have been rather tentative about trying to remove the unwanted items in control panel for fear of nuking my latest version.

My control panel is showing C1 SE 3.5.2, Capture One DSLR Limited Edition 1.2, Capture One Pro 3.7 and Capture One Pro 3.7.1.

I did a search on the knowledge base bu couldn't find anything on this particular subject but I am not a fan of the knowledge base and the way it works.

Idem. Seems to be poor thinking when designing the program. Would be nice to have it cleaned up.

    Equally poor thinking (I guess):

In the Program menu (Start button) I have: 2 main items (\"Phase One\" and then \"PhaseOne C1\") and under the latter v3.5.2, and under the previous v3.7, v3.7.1, and v3.7.2 all listed as separate items.

All but the latest SHOULD have been removed by the install procedure...

Seems to me to be a \"design\" error.

There seems to be 2 approaches taken by Users when moving up to a more recent version.
Some completely remove previous version of Capture One for a clean install following Knowledge Base article # 1665
    http://support.phaseone.com/KB/Home/Sea ... nguageID=1

Using this method, one must be sure that they back-up any special files they've created and saved such as a custom color profile or IPTC template file.

Others go to the Control Panel - Add/Remove software. Each install of a version provides a most updated Uninstaller as well, i.e. If you have versions 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7 installed as you noticed all will appear in the Control Panel. If you are at the latest of 3.7 and run the Uninstaller of 3.6, when you go to remove 3.5 it will tell you something like ' may already be uninstalled... do you want to remove from list ? ' say Yes, and it is gone, and it was already uninstalled by the 3.6 Uninstaller.
You may have noticed that updating the software, it shares some of the program files and folders from previous versions and updates or adds new what is necessary. Uninstalling the previous version will clean up the unnecessary and alleviate some space.

Hope this makes the issue somewhat clearer.
    Cheers,

I think I wil ltry this when it is not so late. anyhow, a suggestion for the design team is to make sure that the installer is so configured that when you install a new version it removes the previous versions of the sw (without removing user files) and cleans up such things as Add/Remove Programs and the Start Menu.

Most other software seems to manage this without a problem. (Actually, I don't think I've used any other sw that leaves all previous versions untouched when you install a new version. Or rather, that leaves so much \"dummy items\" without the sw actually being there any longer)

I believe that the instructions from Phase One says that you can install a new version \"over\" an old (i.e. you do not need to uninstall a previous verision. It will be replaced by the new)...
