Green cast in DNGs in Finder /magenta in C1
I have a friend who processed a number DNG files from CR2s today. When viewed in a finder window the file icons appear with a crazy green cast. When opened in Preview the same green cast is present. When opened in Photoshop they are fine.
Now when these processed DNGs are viewed in Capture One (7.2.2) the highlights have a magenta cast.
This same behavior happened on two different Macbook Pros running Mavericks. (Ill be looking at the files later tonight in 10.7.5)
Whats oing on here with the color profiles in the OS and in C1? How does one get them to look normal in finder?
Cheers.
Tim

Tim,
The Green color of the Thumbnail is a Bug in Capture One. It has no effect on the DNG RAW data, just the thumbnail.
This is why a low end program like Preview shows the error, because it only loads the Thumbnail while Photoshop actual reads the RAW data.
If you're seeing any color cast in Capture One just verify the color settings for that file.0 -
Drew,
As always, thanks for the fast reply.
What can be done to the thumbnails such that they do not have a green color cast? The can not be delivered to the client with a green cast? Re process them in LR?
No color changes were made from viewing the CR2, to processing to a NDG. That being said, not sure what color profile was used when processing them. Might there be some trick in the color profile used in the process recipe?
Kind Regards,

Unfortunately nothing. It's a bug that needs to be fixed and existing files cannot be changed.[quote="Tim Kerr" wrote:

Well perhaps that is the problem. A DNG is a very different File than the fine tuned CR2 from the Canon. As the file changes, so does color and you'll have to use a different ICC profile to match the DNG.0 -
Thanks again drew. I opened a ticket on this as well as received a what I considered an unhelpful and somewhat condescending response. Your response on this (and other issues here) have always been fast and helpful.
In an effort to get the client what they want (DNGs) my friend has used DNG converter….
The client is always right (sadly),
Many, many thanks,

Drew, I don't think you know what a DNG file is from that statement. A DNG is a linear tiff developed with the camera icc profile and whatever gamma curve the raw developer uses. I get the green DNG when I export and then import back to C1 as well as any other program although the green is much different. If it is a bug with C1 7.2.2.2 then it has been there a long time and somehow I don't think Phase One wants export to DNG to work. 0 -

OK. Your opinions are certainly welcome here.
Unfortunately you would be quite incorrect in that presumption.
The error reported on this thread is indeed a bug which I have made clear. I hope we can address it in the near future.0 -

I open the file with Photoshop and in Camera Raw it is green and it isn't using the preview and I have no way of changing the icc profile of the file, it is embedded, then I click open in Photoshop which is not using the preview and run through all of the display icc profiles which does not work so can you please tell me which "different ICC profile to match the DNG" I should use?0 -

I've run into this problem also with opening C1-created DNGs in Adobe Camera Raw. The highlights have a pink/magenta cast, especially when highlight recovery is used. This makes the DNGs unusable for me.
Is this a known bug, or is this related to the green thumbnail issue that's a known bug?0
