Sharpening settings for sports
I shoot high school sports raw with a 1D IV and convert to high res jpegs. then upload to online gallery where parents buy prints. I shoot a lot of night sports--baseball/lacrosse/footballetc-- on dimly lit fields--at iso 5000 and 6400, which makes sharpening the image an even greater challenge.
I currently use "Soft image sharpening 1" and do not think that 2 or 3 shows any improvement. So I have experimented with higher "Amount" setting (keeping the Soft Image 1 settings for threshhold and radius). 325 on Amount does show some improvement but hardly substantial. And 900 on the Amount does not create the highly oversharpened affect I would have guessed--maybe due to the modest threshold/radius settings?
I think these sharpening settings were designed for portaits. Any suggestions on how to get a sharper image with a crisper appearance...inside Capture One...without having to use a 3rd party plug in etc? I've used C1 for yrs, like the workflow and the output but think there must be better settings for sharpening, and likely better ones for noise reduction (on high iso shots)

I think the first step would be to determine the proper Noise Reduction for your images. Once you have that set you will start off with the sharpest possible starting point. From there you can apply different sharpening levels and I think you will see more pronounced change from one Preset to the other.0 -
Good recommendation.......I fine tuned Noise Reduction, added settings for Advanced Noise Reduction then save everything as a Style. Thx 0
