Ok, now I've taken the time to read that this is a known issue and the party line appears to be the G5 is obsolete and therefore unsupported. Fine I'll stick with CO3, obsolete or not it continues to perform.

Don't go out and buy a new computer on C1's account. Navigation and adjustments are painfully slow in 4.5 EVEN on my new Mac Pro. It is even much slower than the previous v 4.1.2 which I have been forced to move back to for the time being.

No worries, I didn't mean to give the impression I was ready to do that.. I expect to get more than 3 years out of this beast! I have the MBP already and there's no appreciable difference.

And here is the big issue. Since PhaseOne no longer supports CO Pro v3.7xx, new Canon cameras will not be supported. The Canon 1DsMKIII was brought into CO Pro v3.7.xx, but only with "untethered support". The new Canon 5DMKII will sadly not even be able to be used with CO Pro v3.7.xx at all. This will undoubtedly factor into many people decisions to steer away from the 5DMKII and back into the 1DsMKIII for twice the price.

I doubt (or respectfully disagree) whether a considerate amount of potential 5D MkII buyers will choose its more expensive cousin for the sake of PPC Mac support and older software. Phase One is following on steps Apple has set since the introduction of Intel Macs. With OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) around the corner, it is end-of-life for PPC Macs. Even if you like to stay on the Tiger/Leopard + PPC Mac + CO 3.7.9 road, you are not running without risks:

Hi, thanks Phase One for facilitating a smooth installation of CO4 from CO3 Pro. I'm finding though the navigation on my dual G5 really slow. I'm using default settings at the moment, is there something that can be done to speed things along? CO3 is a lot faster.

Also I'd like to suggest a more readable forum interface, I take it this is the Halloween theme.. 😊

    Thanks,

This is also very much an issue on my 8 core Mac Pro, very slow to browse.

Actually, my main machine is an Intel MacPro 2.66 with twin dual Xeons running OSX10.4.11. CO Pro v3.7xx works fine for me, I see no need to have to learn CO Pro all over again. I do not wish to upgrade to CO Pro v4.5 soley because the Canon 5DMKII will not work on CO Pro v3.7.xx. Any upgrade to CO Pro v4.5 should be because it is faster, easier to use and a natural extension of CO Pro v3.7.xx. But based on the chat here, it is clear that CO Pro v4.5 is none of these, and is a step in the wrong direction.

It would be great if PhaseOne would throw us customers a bone and add some v3.7.xx support for newer cameras for a short time.

Color scheme is a user preference setting. Go to User Control Panel, Board Preferences, My Board Style: prosilver
