Crashing problem importing Aperture library
I am finally taking the leap from Aperture 3. Capture One Pro looks like a program that is somewhat similar to Aperture. So I got the trial software. I am having a heck of a time loading up my Aperture libraries. The smaller ones that are 20GB or so work but the biggest on that is 324 GB crashes. I usually get a " you have exceeded the system operation memory capability. Note that I have an iMac with 32GB ram and a 4 GHz Intel Core i7. What am I doing wrong?

You should always import your Aperture library in smaller chunks, never in one go.
The Aperture Importer by C1 is terribly unreliable with bigger libraries.
Just split up your Aperture library into smaller ones using the "export as new library" menu item.0 -

Presumably that will have the added advantage of a nice "clean" file for the C1 importer to work with.

This seems to be working. Here are some other things that I think I have learned for importing aperture libraries
1. Turn all application off except C1
2. Do not select auto, use never on OpenCL in pref
3. Run a repair on permissions and database in Aperture before importing
4. If C1 crashes during import you will probably have to do a repair catalog in C1 or that crashed catalog will not run
5, I think I had my Aperture to be on the photostream, C1 stops on aperture images during import. You have to hit ignore all. And if you leave the room and this sits there for a while with no attention the whole program crashes and you have to re import the library.
6. Running the import of of aperture files is faster if everything is on the same drive. I tried doing this with my aperture libraries on an external drive and it was much slower. I think even using C1 is slower that way as well.
I am not sure if these are all valid but they are the things that I tried in the 3 day process of trying to get this all to work. Breaking up the huge Aperture library was the most important.
One question that I do have.....
Once I get all of my pieces of the broken up Aperture library loaded, Can I then move them all into one collection. Right now I have them split into groups of years. But I would like to see all the folders together rather than looking into each collection.0
