Read Only Files. Stumped.

I scanned in some film prints using Image Capture as JPEGs.

Capture 10 has them locked as read only files. I've tried accessing them in a catalog, in a session, I've moved them on disk... nada. Even deactivated C1 and reactivated and nothing.

Any thoughts?

    If grayscale, convert to RGB first.

    Could Image Capture have saved them as read-only?

    Probably a good idea to open a support ticket.

    However should probably verify the following points:

    • Are the image files stored inside or outside the catalog? (if inside, more difficult to deal with)

    • Using finder & preview

      • how big are the images - number of megabytes, pixel size? (if any image dimension is less than 512 pixels, C1 prevents editting)

      • can you delete the image file using finder, can you edit with it preview?

      • does your user id own the image files, does it have write permission?

      • is the image file stored on the main hard drive or some other hard drive.

    Good catch! They were scanned in grayscale. I’ll try rescanning or converting in the AM. Thanks!

    CO has a minimum px size of 512 on one side. I scanned a load of b&w prints and got caught out by this limit.

    You can also just take the greyscale images and convert them to RGB. If you have PS this is under Image > Mode

    😄 Yes, thank you. The original scanned image was grayscale and has a jpeg ending. PS not only easily converts it to RGB, it saves it as .jpg and does not overwrite the original.
