Save yourself some money and just get a couple of Samsung EVO and RAID0
    Or get a NVMe instead

Optane are for enterprise use rather than workstation

Will you see a difference? depends on what you're currently running 😊

    I've two Nvme's, 1TB each Samsung.

I thought the Optane drives would do well when the pagefile fills up.

And of course faster copying from Luma layers to other images, copying from 8 layers sometimes takes longer than editing.

    I'm talking about latency.

such an Optane would make more sense than e.g. 64 GB more ram into the pc to pack, because I need so much power also only with C1.

The performance optimizations that P1 does, I invest in even more extensive corrections.

What RAW files are you working on? What are you doing with the luma layers?

I just tried 8 different layers with various adjustments to each and they all copied instantly from 1 7D2 RAW to the other?

OK, I just saw your Memory thread. I've repeated your 8 luma layers on a recent wedding (approx 1300 RAW - mix of 7D2 and A73) I ran out of memory too! I'm guessing its the unlimited Undo taking it all up as each layer is created one after the other rather than at the same time.

Drive usage wise, I didn't see any huge spikes in speed, because of the small file sizes, it's not really utilising any SSD to it's full potential.

I am very happy about the undo freature, that can save your life.

The last days I learned a lot about what is happening here and what the software and windows do.

With mention of the Undo freature you have inserted the last piece of the puzzle.

And the sponsored video of LTT has helped a lot to understand what optane does exactly and what it is meant for, it would only minimally bring something to my problem.

Here is the LTT (Linus Tech Tipps) video.

I will probably not get optane out of my head and test it once.

You may find additional benefits from using multiple Variants.

That would allow you to fix and edit at a point that you are happy with and then create another version of it to continue working from that point. You can then compare side by side or by switching between the previous variant(s) and your current edit without having to use undo.

    HTH.

I'm currently working on limiting the style to two layers but achieving the same.

At the moment it looks even better.

Unfortunately less planes scale badly, if the light conditions change you have to correct more in detail.

    capture one has become Photoshop.

you have at least 5 ways to achieve the same thing, sometimes faster sometimes better sometimes slower.

    I withdraw my knowledge.

No, you can't exchange 8 levels for 2.
