recurring key word
I have a problem with my Catalog Key Word Library. I have over 20 Keywords, but less than 50, in my library. Whenever I open an image and go to the Key Word library two of the key words are automatically assigned to the image. If I remove the two key words by clicking on the x box and add another keyword the new keyword remains and the other two are not assigned to that image. However, those two key words appear on every other image I open in the catalog. In addition if I click on the x in the box of those two keywords, but do not add another keyword the two key words reappear on the image. How do I stop the computer from automatically assigning these key words to each image. It is always the same two keywords. It does not automatically assign any other key words from the same key word catalog.

Are you doing anything with Metadata Synchronisation in the Preferences?
Are the image RAW files, JPG or something else?
Is there any chance they have the keywords embedded via some other source?
Let's start there and see where it leads.

I hada problem like this and uit turned out that the keywords were embedded in the JPEG file.
I opened the JPEGs with OSX preview and removed the keywords, that fixed it.0 -

I am bring over what metadata is available. Are the image RAW files, JPG or something else?
These are virtual copies off of raw files only.Is there any chance they have the keywords embedded via some other source?
Keywords originated in om Lightroom if that is what you are asking. I do not do a lot of keywording so I am not too concerned with them

Can I just confirm that we now have 2 posters with the same problem in this thread?
Note that the subject has been discussed almost weekly for 3 or 4 years so there are plenty of posts in the forum covering the ground in detail.
Providing a quick reply to identify a potential source for such problems is not to time consuming.
Running with a whole thread covering stuff that has been covered many times before is a bit pointless. However there may be someone who has kept a record of the links for similar threads and, perhaps, some support documents. Perhaps they will drop by soon and offer the information.
Meantime you need to look into the metadata of the files you are working with to see if Keywords are embedded in them and also look into the potential that any associated sidecar files containing metadata and associated with the files you are editing may have the KWs in them. If so you need to consider the effects of any Synchronisation settings you have established in the C1 Preferences. The simple way to check for that would be to disable Synchronisation, delete the KWs and then see if they return.
HTH.

My apologies Grant and all, I did not mean to reply to this post, I clicked on the wrong link and my previous post should be ignored. 0 -

Thanks for letting us know!
It can get a little tricky to follow up well enough if a thread ends up with 2 (or more) posters looking at the same problem but with probably slightly different situations in play. Especially something like the often confusing Keywords application complexities we see where multiple keyword sources are (potentially) in play at the same time.

I only use RAW files. These two key words appear to attach themselves to files as I import them regardless of how I set up metadata synchronization. In addition when I try to x out the keywords and resync the meta data he key words reappear before I can hit the resync command. At this point I am giving up as this is not a real problem because I use keywords primarily to send images into smart albums and I generally do not use smart albums for the key words I cannot remove. 0 -

So do you have any metadata synchronisation on at all? In Preferences>Image>Metadata, if the drop down box for Auto Sync Sidecar XMP is set to None, do the keywords come back after you remove them with the x?

Yes they do. I even restarted Capture One after I changed the setting and reimported the images. 0 -
So what is the source of the image files? Are the imported directly to Capture One from the camera memory card? of imported to the computer some other way and then in to Capture One? What is the full journey of the files from camera to Capture One?
