Is A Cleaner, Logical Folder Structure Possible?
I can not wrap my head around the incredibly cluttered file system using subject folders. The confusing mess it creates in a finder window is crazy. I much prefer being able to use a dated folder system and use keywords in CO7 to easily locate photos. Is CO7 capable of this? I haven't been successful in figuring out how.
Do I have to import my photos from a card using a 3rd party app like ImageIngester first in order to accomplish this?
It's clear to me I am going to have to create a catalog by year instead of one master catalog to keep the file size down. My folder structure is as follows: YYYY > YYYY-MM > YYYY-MM-DD >ttYYYYMMDD_00001.raf. (This eliminates any folder or file name ever repeating itself making it more efficient for a spotlight search, smart folder creation, and finding photos with keywords.

This was all so easy in LR but I desperately would like to quit using LR because of how poorly it handles the X-Trans sensor. And I would love to break free of Adobe's oppression.

For clarity (that is: for my understanding) I break down your post into a few successive questions.
1. is CO7 able to rename files on import in the format "ttYYYYMMDD_<sequence number 5 digits>.ext"?
A. Yes, this is possible with the renaming tokens during import or after import (batch rename)
2. is CO7 able to create and use a sub folder structure YYYY/YYYY-MM/YYYY-MM-DD and place the imported images in the correct folder based on the EXIF?
A. No. CO7 does not have the ability to create folders on import based on EXIF metadata; you have to manually create it and select the proper folder or use an other tool specific for that.0 -

I had the naming figured out, that was easy. Just couldn't find a way to do the folder structure and now I know why. Is this something reserved for MediaPro to handle?
Wow, I haven't used that program since before Microsoft changed it to Expressions. It was iView Multimedia then I think.0
