Images cropped right after import, how this is possible?
I imported about 200 images, mixture of focal length, 50mm, and 70 to 200mm... All images taken at 70mm are cropped a little right away (without me cropping them). Thin stripes of about 20 pixels on the short side, and about 10 pixels on the long side were cut off from the image.
This happens only at 70mm. Why is that ? Not sure but I might have seen this behavior in photo-shop as well, but did not pay attention at the time.
Does it have something to do with the lens ? It was Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 II.
Sorry if this question is not related to CO, but it happening in CO, maybe someone else saw it and knows what is going on..

I should have googled first. It has something to do with the lens distortion correction. Apparently this crop is included with the RAW file. It cannot even be removed using CO crop tool.. Never noticed it before.. 0 -
Are you positive it can't be removed with the crop tool? I'll have to check but I seem to remember that I can "crop out" the RAWs from my Sony camera (but of course the edges and angles are visibly distorted then). 0 -

What's the camera?
On my 1D3 (first example of the lens I came across at 70mm) there is a small amount of cropping applied by the C1 lens correction but I can eliminate it if I wish by unticking the "Hide Distorted Areas" box in the lens correction tool.
Perhaps other bodies - especially more recent ones - do more with the RAW? Or can be made to do more with it?

The camera is 1Dx. I looked it up in the lens correction tool. By default the check box "Hide distorted areas" was checked. If I uncheck it, it shows even more cropped pixels around the image, and they are distorted. I will keep it checked.
I found that this crop can only be removed by dragging the Distortion slider all the way to the left (0%). By default it was at 100% and that gave the cropping. So, in summary, all is good.0 -

The APS-H sensor in the 1D3 is clearly eliminating most of the perceived distortion area before C1 has to do much!
Just for reference you can I believe, should you ever need to, remove the default of hiding the distorted area, by saving a new preset value for the lens and invoking that at, say, Import. However whether that is as smart an idea as it might sound I am not at all certain. In particular I am not sure if it would remain focal length specific.
