Support for XMP files?
Is CO compatible with XMP sidecar files? When I add keywords or other IPTC data to 30D files in Adobe Bridge, that info is not visible in the CO IPTC Tracker.
I'm trying hard to develop a proper DAM workflow, but I keep running into problems with CO. If XMP is not currently supported will it be soon? I believe it is rapidly becoming an industry standard way of maintaining metadata for images and other types of files.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Andrew

XMP is not currently supported by C1, but will be in version 4 - see this press release for details. C1 does not in anyway alter the contents of RAW files and does not expect them to contain IPTC type data (only the more EXIF type data automatically inserted by cameras).
XMP will undoubtedly become the leading image metadata standard, but don't underestimate the current industry dominance of IPTC and the general market inertia to change... if you intend to supply your images to libraries and agencies, expect to be using IPTC for some time to come. Treat XMP as an emergent parallel standard not as a current replacement.
As for workflow, I use C1's IPTC editor (together with some pre-preapared templates and judicious use of 'copy to batch') to add all the primary data at process time. I then use IMatch to do any post modifications, and also to add all the keywords - I wrote a script that turns IMatch categories into IPTC keywords so I have a matching but more powerful way of locating images within my catalogue database.0
