I had constant crashes with 6.4.1.(Win7 64-bit pro + C1 Pro.). I uninstalled and reverted to 6.4 and it works well. You might want to try.

    Thanks man!

I have spend so much money on that professional programm but ...
The software development for P1 is unbelievably bad.
    Unfortunately!

You need to provide more information than simply telling us that editing and exporting are "not possible" - I can assure you that they're completely possible with 6.4.1 on my Win 7 64 bit machine (a lower-specced machine than yours, too): at the weekend my Capture One 6.4.1 happily crunched through over 1000 Canon 7D files converted to 16 bit tiff - no problem.

So talk us through what you're doing, and tell us what happens when you try to edit or export.

One thought straight away: try right-clicking the application and selecting "run as administrator" - see if that helps.

I also deleted version 6.4.1 and reinstalled version 6.4. but all the same problems:

    1.) No editing tools work
    2.) No export possible
    3.) No ejustmens activ!

Strange: With Lightroom non of these problems. Have installed it and it runns!

Sounds like you run CO DB 6, a.k.a. DB mode. This mode is for data back files only, not DSLR. Deactivate and activate with your license key.

Thank you for your tip with the right-click, it works!
When I wanna work with capture one 6.4.1 I need to right click the programm icon and start it as admin on my brand new notebook with SO win7.

I am logged in my system as admin anyway and did not need to right click on my old noteboock to run capture one propperly!
Why is that now? Lightroom runs without rightclicking the programm icon.
How can I solv the problem?

    Regards

No need to run the program as administrator. You most likely have not activated it with your key as I explained in my previously post. User error, not program error.

    It says P1 Pro 6.4.1.
    activated version, 1 activation left.

    strange...

The words "This thread" in Keith's post have the link you need. Just click somewhere on that text.

    Hey Keith & Grant!

    Thaks for the tips.
When I read the article I can't eat as much, as I want to puke!

I have spent a lot of money to get the profi raw converter C1pro but it has so many problems !
I installed the programm on a fresh new notebook, 2Ghz, 16GB Ram, 1TB HDD, what else needs this
software to simply do it's job?

    A shame on the programmers!

Why does Lightroom runs without problems? It's much cheaper!

    Frustrated

    Arthur,

I am happily Running C1 V6 on a much lower spec notebook than you have and an old desktop with just 3Gb ram. No serious problems. The only time things seem to become unstable is when the system (ie. Windows 7) gets into a strange state and may give problems with other applications at the same time. I.E. 8 seems to have a much bigger problem managing memory when doing nothing more complex than browsing. My only problems seem to arise when I have updated the software for managing the Graphics card (about every 2 months at the moment it seems).

Adobe and LightRoom do not always get things right. Far from it. As for price I think you may find that is just a way to kill off a few competitors in the market. Before LR V4 LightRoom was much more expensive. I expect it to head upwards again at some point in the future as it did after version 1 introduction.

I am aware of other software, nothing to do with photo editing, that has recently gone through a 're-write' project to allow the use of the latest and greatest Microsoft tools - operating system, Office products integration and many other things.

Despite a lot of quality control work and extensive testing they have been finding new problems for over a year. Sometimes it is their code, perhaps not parts of it that everyone uses regularly. At other times the problem relates to the new core development tools (not their code) which either does not work as documented OR has been changed in ways that have not been listed as changes and then not documented. This produces huge problems and can mean a lot of re-development work for stuff that has worked well for several previous generations of the product over a decade or longer.

Never underestimate how much is involved with getting code to work especially when several versions of operating systems may be involved, each with their own requirements and, potentially, 'adapted' by the hardware vendor for some specific purpose or policy of their own.

Move beyond the installation challenge that you have experienced and work with the software for a while to see if your opinion changes. Doing that is what you bought the software for is it not?

Great, that rules out cause #1. Thanks for feedback.

Potential cause #2 is access permission to image files. CO6 needs read & write permission as is displayed in the Library tool, bottom left, Info button. External disks or a second HDD in the system often do not have these permission by default, as does the default Pictures folder of the user.

Can you perhaps share more details about the permission state in CO6 and the location of your images? And what is the kind of image file you are working with? Raw file, camera model and brand?

    Arthur,

as Grant correctly suggests, Lightroom (which I've used for a long time - and still use) isn't perfect by any measure; neither is AfterShot Pro, nor Bibble before it, nor any of the many other Raw converters at my disposal.

The problem you're having with Capture One right now is likely to be pretty minor and easily fixed, if the link I provided earlier is relevant (and I think it will be).

But once you've sorted out your permissions/privileges issue (which is something you do at the Operating System level) the problem will be solved, and then you'll get what no other converter will give you - Capture One's image quality: there's something about Capture One's colours that I have never been able to replicate in any other software - it's what has always kept me coming back to Capture One - and it is absolutely worth persevering with the occasional problem in order to get access to Capture One's conversions.
